Dear Jardineros Members,
March came in like a lion but that didn’t stop our 60th Anniversary Event – the Clean-up of Highway 165 on March 15! We had a great turnout with 31 Jardineros volunteers joined by 21 volunteers from the Placitas Community Library and 8 volunteers from the Las Placitas Presbyterian Church. These hardy folks collected over 800 pounds of trash along 8 miles of Highway 165 on that blustery Saturday and then enjoyed pizza at the library. Check out the Signpost article posted online where you will see some familiar faces. Thanks to Cheryl Betterly who coordinated this project and all our wonderful volunteers who made this happen.
Our April monthly meeting will begin at 9:00 on Wednesday, April 2nd, at the Las Placitas Presbyterian Church with gathering and a special treat. Members of the Plant Whisperers Interest Group want to share their love of everything that blooms during the 60th Anniversary celebrations. They have been busy preparing for spring by making over 700 seed balls! A gift bag of seed balls, along with planting instructions, will be given to each member who attends the April 2nd meeting.
At 9:30 we will begin our meeting with some announcements and our program. Our topic this month is “Preserving a Remarkable New Mexico Place” presented by Roch Hart. Roch manages the private 22,000-acre Diamond Tail Ranch, near the Diamond Tail residential community. He will tell us about protecting the stunning area full of wildlife and historic cultural sites of Native and colonial inhabitants.
Our April Community Service Collection is for the St. Vincent de Paul Emergency Food Pantry located in Bernalillo and staffed by volunteers. The pantry provides food at no cost to families in need in our community. Jill Kennedy and Susan Craycraft will be collecting donations at the meeting. Please make your checks payable to St. Vincent de Paul/Emergency Food Pantry and note “Jardineros Donation” on the memo line. If you are unable to attend the meeting, please mail your donation to St. Vincent de Paul/Emergency Food Pantry, P.O. Box 607, Bernalillo, NM 87004-0607. Online donations can be made here. Click Give Now and include the following in the Notes section, “Jardineros de Placitas Donation for Emergency Food Pantry”. If you donate online, please let Jill or Susan know to ensure we get a correct accounting for online donations.
