“You call me ‘Teacher’ and ‘Lord,’ and rightly so, for that is what I am. Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another’s feet. I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you. Very truly I tell you, no servant is greater than his master, nor is a messenger greater than the one who sent him. 17 Now that you know these things, you will be blessed if you do them.
-John 13:13-17-
What kind of God washes filthy feet?
It was the night our Lord was sitting around the table with his closest followers, the same night he would be betrayed by one of them. While they all were eating, Jesus pushed back from the table and stood up, took off his outer garment, and wrapped a towel around his waist. It must have been a surreal moment when he poured water into a small basin and one by one washed his disciples’ feet. One at a time, he served those men. Jesus washed their nasty feet and dried them with the towel. One by one Jesus served them; he washed them clean. He who was clean took on his follower’s filth. Jesus showed them how to serve.
Jesus said,
“...whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first must be your slave— just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” (Matthew 20:26-28)
If we are honest, we are quick to serve ourselves and slow to serve others. Selfishness over Selflessness, rules the day. Dictionary.com describes selfless as “concerned more with the needs and wishes of others than with one’s own.”
What kind of God washes feet? The selfless One, the One who gave his life for me and for you. His name is Jesus….. He served, now let us go and serve like him. It is truly a joy for me to serve our Lord WITH each of you.
See you Sunday we continue our series - The Hands of the Lord
Pastor Austin
PRAYER: Lord Jesus, help us to serve others as you taught us to serve. AMEN.

Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
Matthew 6:19–21
