Comics creators, and those getting started, mark your calendar for monthly meetings of the Comic Creators Roundtable at IdeaSpace.
Our area is full of talented teens. See the Teen Art Show winners and other fine artworks, either at Fredericksburg Branch or online. Teens who like to express themselves in verse can enter the Claudia Emerson Teen Poetry Contest, from 4/1-4/15. Both the Teen Art Show and Teen Poetry Contest feature cash prizes generously provided by the Friends of the Library.
Grow a Reader Specials, just like regularly scheduled Grow a Reader classes, help young children develop a love of learning--and books! Seasonal Specials coming up soon include Eid al-Fitr Mubarak (3/28) and Kids' Yoga Day (4/2 and 4/4). Looking for some excellent reading suggestions for this age group and their slightly older siblings? Discover the latest award-winning picture books and early readers.
Children in grades K-6 can sign up to practice reading aloud to a therapy dog with our faithful friends from Blue Gray Therapy Dogs. The dogs and their handlers also visit for Time with a Therapy Dog, a chance for teens and adults with disabilities, accompanied by their caregivers, to spend some time one-on-one with a gentle pup.
Do some of your family members have fur, feathers, or scales? Come by Fredericksburg Branch on 4/4 for Pet Fest--a chance for both beginning and experienced adult pet owners to learn something new and enjoy fun activities!
The Friends of the Library kick off their April Membership Month with a special sale April 4-5 & 7-9, at the Friends Center & Bookshop, starting off with a Friends-only preview sale on April 4, with doors opening at 5:00.
