Academic Fellowships at Brandeis
The primary goal of Academic Fellowships at Brandeis is to support students’ academic growth and development. The process of applying for a competitive fellowship or research opportunity can help you clarify your goals and set in motion a plan to achieve them. A Fellowship Advisor can help you learn more about which opportunities are a good match for your interests and then guide you through the application process, from developing your initial ideas all the way through writing your proposal or essays and ultimately submitting your application. Academic Fellowships at Brandeis works with students in every class year, from any background, with any GPA, and in any area of interest. Whether you are just beginning your academic journey or already have a specific research project or fellowship application in mind, we look forward to helping you make the most of the available opportunities at Brandeis and beyond!
Fulbright U.S. Student Program
Have you ever thought about conducting scientific research in South Africa? Teaching English in Sri Lanka? Pursuing a Master's degree in Sweden? Brandeis seniors and recent graduates have won Fulbright grants to support these and other year-long research projects all over the world. If you are interested in applying this fall for a grant that would start in the fall of 2026, or if you'd just like to learn more about the program and whether it's a match for you, reach out to fellowships@brandeis.edu to opt in to our "Fulbright Updates" email list or to set up an individual advising appointment. Current juniors and graduating seniors interested in spending time abroad after graduation are especially encouraged to apply. (Please note that the Fulbright U.S. Student Program is a US government-sponsored program and applicants must be citizens or nationals of the United States of America at the time of application; permanent residents are not eligible.)
Thinking of applying for a Rhodes, Marshall, Schwarzman, Churchill or Gates-Cambridge Scholarship?
Applications are due very early in the fall semester, so current juniors and seniors should start thinking about these opportunities NOW! You can learn more about specific fellowship opportunities here, or schedule an appointment with Meredith Monaghan by emailing fellowships@brandeis.edu, either to talk about a specific fellowship application or to explore which opportunities might be a good match for you.
Fellowships Email List
If you're thinking about applying for a fellowship in the future, or just want to learn more about what opportunities are available, you may wish to sign up for our weekly newsletter, where we share information about particular fellowship opportunities, application tips, deadline reminders, and more. To opt in to receiving these updates, please email fellowships@brandeis.edu and we'll add you to the list!

UWS Workshop Series Part III: Research Essay
The final installment of the UWS Workshop series will explore the research essay. A primary concern for this assignment is establishing an arguable thesis that is based on research but inspired by your personal ideas. Achieving the delicate balance between evidence and speculation that is essential for this assignment is always tricky, not just for undergraduates!
In this workshop, we will focus on the outlining process (incorporating research into a rhetorical scaffolding) and the development of a strong thesis statement. Students are encouraged to join in no matter what stage they are at in the writing process. There will be opportunity to share your progress and to ask questions.
Friday, April 4, 12:00–1:00 pm
Tuesday, April 8, 1:00–2:00 pm

Research and Writing in the Archives
A workshop co-taught by the Brandeis Library and University Writing Center
This workshop offers helpful guidance for planning and conducting original research in archives and special collections. Topics covered will include defining archives and special collections and how they are organized; defining research needs and finding relevant archives; reading and note-taking strategies while in the archives; and digital tools to assist in the research process. Even if you've already visited archives before, this workshop features exercises that are helpful at any stage in the writing and research process.
Best for anyone working with archival materials.
