As the release of mandates by local governments tend to be slowing down, our team will no longer be updating the local government portion of the Legal Compass.

Please email our team with any questions regarding the below information or any local government actions.

RECENT FEDERAL GOVERNMENT ACTIONS
  • House Passes $2.2 Trillion Coronavirus Stimulus Bill: The House passed H.R. 925, a revised version of the Health and Economic Recovery Omnibus Emergency Solutions (HEROES) Act. The $2.2 trillion legislation would provide $436 billion to state, local, territorial and tribal governments and $75 billion for coronavirus testing, contact tracing and isolation measures. Additionally, certain businesses would be provided with a second Payment Protection Program ("PPP") loan and individuals would be provided with a second round of direct payments, ensuring weekly $600 federal unemployment payments through January 2021 and preventing unemployed workers from exhausting their eligibility. The bill is a point of negotiation between the House and Senate and is not expected to pass in the Senate.
  • CDC Orders a Halt to Evictions: Effective September 4, 2020, the CDC issued an Order under Section 361 of the Public Health Service Act to temporarily halt residential evictions to prevent the further spread of COVID-19. The Order applies to residential tenancies in its jurisdiction, and prevents the Landlord from evicting a "covered person" until December 31, 2020. To qualify as a "covered person", a tenant must complete a Declaration and have it on file with his/her landlord.
