“We have had very positive experiences at SBDC getting practical advice on financing and marketing. SBDC helped connect us to the people and banks that funded our construction project. If you have a question, SBDC has an answer. We often talk ourselves out of amazing ideas because we think we are "not ready." There is no perfect time. Just start now. One day at a time, one task at a time until you get there.”

Glass Hollow is located at 9080 Rockfish Valley Hwy, Afton VA 22920 and is open Thursday–Sunday, 11-5 pm

Edgewood Apiaries Places Second in VA FAIRS Bull Pen Challenge

Five agricultural innovators in Virginia competed for $30,000 in the third annual VA FAIRS Bull Pen Challenge this December. The finalists presented innovative ideas focused on agricultural labor, sustainability, food safety, rural health, and supply chain resilience. Edgewood Apiaries and Farm in Fluvanna County, a producer of premium, nectar-specific Virginia honey and hive-based products like soaps, lotions and candles came in second in the challenge! Owner Amanda Sweeney says the company plans to expand its production by purchasing honey from a network of small-scale Virginia honey producers and promoting transparency by labeling the honey in a way that drives consumers to videos of the beekeepers.

BOI requirement paused by federal court

A Texas federal court has temporarily blocked the Corporate Transparency Act (CTA) and its regulations, which require U.S. businesses, primarily small ones, to report beneficial ownership and leadership data to the Treasury Department (FinCen). This injunction, issued just weeks before the January 1, 2025 compliance deadline, suggests the CTA may be unconstitutional. While litigation continues, businesses should prepare their filings but refrain from submitting them.
