THE LIFE OF MOSES – LESSON 31

MOSES THE INTERCESSOR

In Exodus chapters 19-31 Moses is upon Mount Sinai for forty days where God gives him the commandments on stone tables and instructs him in all ordinances and the making of everything for the tabernacle worship.

During that time, the people below became anxious that something happened to him. They called upon the high priest Aaron to make images of gods that they can worship, and he listened to them. We do not know how many images he might have made for the bible only mentions one specific one. It was one of the most revered of the Egyptian gods, the Apis Bull in the shape of a golden calf. (Exodus 32.)

When Moses and Joshua came down from Mount Sinai and saw the people dancing, feasting, and worshipping this idol, Moses was so angry that he threw down and smashed the stone tablets that God had written on with His own hand.

However, when God in his anger told Moses that he would kill all these people and start over by making Moses a great nation, Moses’ heart softened. He stood in the gap between God and Israel as an intercessor. He offered God his own life as a substitute for Israel. God declined the offer but said Israel must pay for their own sin.

Intercessors today are very important to the kingdom of heaven. Anyone can engage in intercessory prayer, but a true intercessor is one who has a ministry burden of intercession. For them it is not just an occasional prayer matter. It is their ministry. It is a daily prayer burden. Some have a burden to pray in a specific area of need. Others cover various needs as impressed by Holy Spirit. And, in some cases, the intercessor stands in the gap like Moses did between God and the prayer target.

Moses was a great example of this. If you at any time feel impressed to pray for a person, a situation, or anything else, do not push it aside. Pause from whatever you are doing and pray right then if possible. If not right then, do it at the earliest time you can. Do not put it off.

THE SECRET PLACE

Isaiah 45:3, “And I will give thee the treasures of darkness, and hidden riches of secret places, that thou mayest know that I, the LORD, which call thee by thy name, am the God of Israel.”

There has been much talk among Christians about spending time in the secret place. This sounds like a wonderful thing to do, but just what and where is that “secret place?”

The secret place is where each individual spends time “alone” with God. It could be during your early morning reading of the bible, when no one else is in the room.  It could be when you take an early morning or late evening walk alone. Some even go alone into their closet, shut the door, and sit on the floor.

The secret place is a place where it is quiet. Noise is shut out so your spiritual ears can hear from God. Some people do this in their bed before they get up for the day.  

Wherever it is, it is your time alone with God. I like to think of it as a sacred place where you meet one on one. Sometimes you hear nothing. You just sit as the Lord’s feet and feel his presence. Other times there is a two-way conversation.  

The secret place is a place of refreshing and also a place of direction. If one does not take time to go there daily, they become dry in their spirit. They eventually lose interest in spiritual things and may turn away from God altogether.  

So, like natural food feeds the body, this time with the Lord in that “secret place” feeds your spirit. It is not a place of an occasional visit. It is a place of residence. It is a place that you just do not want to leave because God is there. It is a place of safety and comfort.

If you have not learned to do this, then now is as good a time as ever to start. Close your eyes wherever you are and just be quiet. God wants this time with you.

PROPHETIC EXHORTATION

Just remember you were born to be a soaring eagle. So don’t be flying low and hanging out with the squawking, flapping and yapping barnyard chickens.You know if you try to socialize with those chickens;Then it won’t be long until you find yourself pecking around in the dirt of life while flapping and yapping just like the lowly little chicken. Not to mention you’d soon see that you’re no longer acting like the beautiful soaring eagle you were born to be. So you keep flying high and stay on guard for those chickens will continue to scratch around in the dirt; While waiting on you to drop by their dirty old barnyard…For all they want is to get you looking and acting just like one of them. Now you know that you are better than that; So keep flying right on by them all while remembering you were born to be a soaring eagle

Tuesday Thought For Today

Have you ever said “What’s the use? It’s never going to change. God where are you?”

The devil would like you to stay full of doubt and unbelief. BUT God. Those are the times to think about the price Jesus paid for you. The devil doesn’t want you to remember why you became a believer in Jesus. No he wants you to be downcast and trodden. He wants your faith.

So how do you dig yourself out of the pit you find yourself in, restore your belief, and faith in God? It is easier to stay miserable and think negatively. I know from experience. However, those are the times you have to make a choice and surround yourself with scripture, worship music, and remind your mind and heart of all the things God has done in the past. And you can begin to pray in Jesus' name to bind up the spirit of discouragement, hopelessness, doubt, unbelief, and send it back to the pit of hell. Then ask Holy Spirit to come and fill you afresh with His love, peace and mercy. If you have been someone that always saw the bad in a situation then it might take some time to change your outlook. But keep at it and know you are not the only one that has felt hopeless. God is faithful to His kids.

“He lifted me out of the pit of despair, out of the mud and the mire. He set my feet on solid ground and steadied me as I walked along. He has given me a new song to sing, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see what he has done and be amazed. They will put their trust in the Lord.”
