Maximize the GIV Experience

This year several Institutes will offer College Credit:

Entrepreneurship

Mathematical Sciences

Technology & Design

Weather & Climate Science

All Institutes offer opportunities for High School Credit

GIV students can work with their schools to get high school credit for their experience at GIV through the Vermont Flexible Pathways program. Each school is different - this guide can help.

The 2025 Academic Guide provides information for students, families, and educators about pathways to earn college and high school credit for participation at our summer Institutes.

Tour Stop: Vermont State House

Last week, we had a bunch of amazing alumni join us on tour! For this stop, we were at the Vermont State House. Our alumni connected with local legislators to share their experiences at GIV.

Here's what they had to say:

We are grateful for this community, including the support of our local legislators and our alumni.

GIV as a Ripple Effect 🌀

Rafaela Botti ('24) attended GIV's Global Issues & Youth Action Institute this past summer. As a homeschooler in a small town, GIV helped her make connections with people who have similar interests. Now she's collaborating with the Education Justice Coalition to run her own social justice camp!

We asked Rafaela about her experience with GIV...

"Attending the Governor’s Institutes of Vermont’s Global Issues and Youth Action institute has caused a ripple effect in my life. What stands out to me is that the experience doesn’t stop when the camp ends. GIV alumni continue to bond and share experiences long after it's over. I’m meeting GIV alumni of all ages, seeking out their advice, collaborating, and building friendships. GIV’s strength is that it provides participants an amazing, interactive opportunity to make connections, network, grow, and learn on so many levels; I came away from GIV more determined than ever to help build community through action.

Thanks to an introduction made through GIV, I began working with Education Justice Coalition of Vermont as part of their Youth Organizer Training Program. This summer, with the support and mentorship of EDJCO, I will be hosting a social justice camp at the Teen Center in Middlebury, Vermont.

This opportunity allows for me to utilize and improve my skills as an organizer. The camp will welcome local middle and high school students to come together and learn about prominent injustices that we are currently facing through interactive curriculum and guest speakers (I’m pretty excited about this!). My hope is that the participants of the camp will leave with tools to make our communities a better, more equitable place for all."

If you, or someone you know, is interested in attending, supporting, or being a youth facilitator, please reach out to Rafaela at rafaela.edjvt@gmail.com.
