Kings Island Speaker Presents to CIS 6th Grade
Columbia Intermediate School's 6th grade Team UKnight recently had a speaker from Kings Island. Joel Yankie, Director or Maintenance and Construction at Kings Island carved time out of his busy schedule to present to the students about the importance of the Power 5 Skills in his career.
The Power 5 Skills are an initiative of Kings Local Schools to emphasize the skills critical for students to bring into the workforce. These skills include being a: Communicator, Critical Thinker, Problem Solver, Collaborator, and Career Ready. When asked how the Power 5 Skills apply to his career, Yankie responded, “Instead of focusing on one tiny bit of what my career would entail, it was about learning the skills to be career-ready no matter which pathway I took.”
Team UKnight hosts a speaker every Monday who is asked to present about how one or more of these skills have helped them in their career. CIS 6th grade teacher, Abby Jackson said, "The students thoroughly enjoyed his presentation and learned all of the fun history behind Camp Snoopy!"

Do you ever wonder how the decision is made to delay or cancel school?
We followed Mr. Sears this week as he drove the roads. He said his main concern is the safety of the buses and teen drivers. Besides road conditions, he also takes into consideration the forecast and the District's parking lots.
Watch below as he went through the decision process for yesterday's 2-hour delay.

KHS Junior a LLS Student Visionary
Kings High School Junior, Gracie Tapp is working on the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's (LLS) Student Visionaries of the Year Campaign, working to raise awareness and funds for the LLS's mission.
Supporting organizations like the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society is personal for Gracie and her family – because Cancer Research saved Gracie’s life.
Gracie was diagnosed with Leukemia, which manifested much like a Lymphoma localized cancer when she was 4 years old. Her diagnosis was complex and took several months, but eventually, a bone marrow biopsy confirmed that Gracie had Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) and she underwent 6 weeks of in-patient and intensive chemotherapy.
She eventually got to come home; treatment lasted two years, and in 2014, at 7 years old, Gracie was officially in remission and admitted to the Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Survivor’s Clinic. Life continued into normalcy for a few years… until symptoms returned. In the Spring of 2018, Gracie struggled to run and jump, then eventually to even walk. In June of 2018, at 11 years old, Gracie officially relapsed – again diagnosed with (ALL) Leukemia. This time, she underwent chemo and immuno-therapy, again for two years.
In 6th Grade, Gracie joined the Kings School district at first with tutoring, then as a full-time student. In June of 2020, Gracie completed her second round of treatment and today is in the Survivor’s Clinic for the second time. Gracie’s outlook on life – and those of her brother and sister (Lucas and JoJo) and her mom and dad- are forever transformed by the threat and the fear of a Cancer diagnosis, as well as the fierce survival instinct and celebration of life as we know it.
As a family, the Tapp's are firmly committed to doing whatever they can to help other families, and to progress research that brings relief to every mother, father, brother, sister, aunt, uncle, grandparent, and friend who needs hope. Without hope, there is nothing. Please join Gracie in raising awareness and funding for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society as one small but meaningful step toward making a difference. A difference that is non-negotiable.
Please consider joining this fight by making a donation. All donations are greatly appreciated and tax-deductible. The last day to donate is March 14, 2025. Your support will help ensure this generation is the last to see cancer. Please follow us on Instagram for updates on the campaign and other ways to get involved. On behalf of blood cancer patients everywhere, thank you!

KECC Treated to a Special Visitor
The preschool classes at the Kings Early Childhood Center were visited by "Bagster," Kroger Company's mascot.
Mrs. Dozier's class has been talking about community helpers and the preschoolers were surprised when a bag full of fruits and vegetables.walked through the door.
Bagster gave lots of high-fives and waves. He brought stickers and coloring sheets for the students to take home. Fun fact; Did you know that when you visit Kroger, kids can get a free banana or clementine any time they visit the store?

Four KHS DMA Students' Artwork in Exhibition
If you're looking for something to do on Sunday, February 22, you can take part in the opening celebration of Finding Your Place, a Teen Art Show at the Contemporary Art Center (CAC) in downtown Cincinnati.
Four Kings High School Digital Media Arts students' artwork has been selected for the exhibition. Congratulations to Mia Ravenscraft, Ainsley Johnstone, Hanna Atkins, and Charlotte Dale whose work will be displayed in the 6th floor Community Gallery. If you click here you will see Mia's artwork which is the image that was selected to represent the exhibition.
The CAC’s Teen Council invited young adults, ages 13-19 to submit original 2D and 3D artwork for this collaborative exhibition of local artists. As teens age out of childhood and begin taking steps toward adulthood, it can be hard to find their place. Finding Your Place will feature work that celebrates, laments, and expresses all the feelings that fall in between when trying to figure out who you are.
The opening celebration will take place from 1:00 - 3:00 p.m.

In an effort to be "green," the District does not send paper flyers home. We use a platform called Peachjar that houses flyers of community programs and resources.
Parents receive approved flyers via email, and they are posted on our digital flyerboard for easy retrieval. Any organization can distribute information to our community by creating an account!
