“To Kill A Man”
Rev. Michael J. S. Carter
Michael Servetus was not the first to be executed for questioning the trinity and he would not be the last. Ferenz David, (known here in the West as Francis David) a great leader of the Transylvanian Unitarian Church, was martyred in 1579 for his anti-trinitarian views and died in prison. But Servetus' death was a pivotal turning point in our tradition and left a deep scar. We as UU have always been cautious ever since of dogmas and policies which ignore the impact they have on the lives of other human beings. Note the UU response to Moral Mondays for example and other social justice causes and movements. In short, to kill a man is not a doctrine. It is murder. Pure and simple. This morning, let us remember our brother Michael Servetus, who gave his life (or more truthfully, had his life taken) for what he believed.
Second Sundays: Ruben Orengo, violin; Ozzie Orengo, congas; Linda Metzner, piano

“Let Go of the Rope”
Rev. Michael J. S. Carter
Letting go is one of the most difficult (and frightening) things we are called to do in this life. Whether it is the loss of employment, a relationship, relocating… you name it. Fear of the unknown keeps us in life situations long past the expiration date. This morning, we will explore the fear of the human ego and the mindset that keeps us from letting go of the rope and embracing life in all its splendor, the crooked & the straight, the peaks and the valleys. See you on Sunday!
