Palm/Passion Sunday

ONE 9:45am Blended Service

Sunday School 10:45am

All services will be live-streamed to Facebook & YouTube.

Introduction

Today we follow Christ from triumphal entry to the cross, each waypoint of the journey marked by Jesus’ compassion for those who would betray, mock, accuse, or do violence to him. Though persecuted and beaten, Jesus the Son of God is not disgraced; instead, he asks forgiveness for those who put him to death. We have walked the Lenten pathway these forty days, each of us invited through baptism to “let the same mind be in you that was in Christ Jesus.” We enter this holy week accompanying Jesus to the cross with both grief and thanksgiving in our hearts, trusting in God’s redeeming love.

Readings

Isaiah 50:4-9a

The servant of the Lord submits to suffering

Psalm 31:9-16

Into your hands, O Lord, I commend my spirit. (Ps. 31:5)

Philippians 2:5-11

Humbled to the point of death on a cross

Luke 22:14—23:56

The passion of the Lord

For those worshiping online via Facebook or YouTube, please leave a comment while watching. We miss seeing you, and we'd like to know you are with us.

Lectionary Readings

At Advent Lutheran, EVERYONE is invited to partake in the Lord’s Table, for communion is a sacred gift of grace extended to all. Regardless of background, status, or past mistakes, Christ welcomes each person with open arms. The table is not reserved for a select few but is a place of unity, love, and spiritual nourishment for all who seek Him. Just as Jesus shared meals with sinners, outcasts, and disciples alike, so too does His invitation to communion remain open to everyone. It is a moment of remembrance, renewal, and fellowship, where all can come to receive His grace and be strengthened in faith. At our worship service we use intinction, you will be given a wafer which you may dip into either red wine or white grape juice. If you have mobility issues, please let the usher know and the table will come to you.

Pastoral Care

If you find yourself in need of pastoral care, or know of someone who does, we encourage you to reach out to us. You can contact the church office at 615-893-9705 or connect directly with Janette Walker at 615-796-1854. Pastor George Tuttle at 410-404-3243 is working with us part-time also

At Advent Lutheran Church, we are dedicated to nurturing a supportive community, and we want to assure you that you are not alone on this journey. Our doors are open, and we are here to walk alongside you, providing the timely assistance and compassionate support you deserve. Please do not hesitate to reach out; your well-being is important to us.

Maundy Thursday & Good Friday Worship

Maundy Thursday, April 17

Worship Services Noon & 7pm

In our worship this Holy Week we recognize and reflect upon God’s purposes as we draw near to the cross. On Maundy Thursday we remember that chief priest and teachers of the law had Jesus in the crosshairs as they sought to destroy him. Yet at the same time, Jesus set his sights on our redemption by giving us his very body and blood in the bread and wine of Holy Communion.

The 7pm service will be livestreamed on our Facebook page and our YouTube channel.

Good Friday, April 18

Worship Services Noon & 7pm

Our Good Friday Worship at Advent this year is the final installment of “Cross Purposes.” Our worship will center upon The Seven Words from the Cross and also include the Bidding Prayers and Adoration of the Cross.

Meditations on the words from the cross, harmonized from the four Gospels, have been a popular source of reflection since the sixteenth century. Drawn, as they are from the various Gospels, the only common context they have is the crucifixion scene. They invite more poetic meditation than they do historic analysis. It is in that spirit that your devout attention will be directed to these seven words about experiences and concerns common to us all: Forgiveness, Salvation, Relationship, Abandonment, Distress, Triumph, and Reunion.

This is your invitation to join the congregation of Advent in solemn contemplation of these pivotal words on April 18.

The 7pm service will be livestreamed on our Facebook page and our YouTube channel.

Easter Sunday, April 20th

Worship Service at 9:45am

Celebrate Easter Sunday with us at Advent! Join our joyful worship service at 9:45am as we gather to honor the resurrection of Christ. All are welcome—come as you are and experience the hope and renewal of Easter morning.

Join us for an Easter Brunch on Sunday, April 20th, immediately following the worship service! Hosted by the Youth & Fellowship Team, this special gathering is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate together as a church family.

This year, we are having it potluck-style and invite the congregation to contribute by bringing their favorite breakfast casserole, baked goods, or other brunch items to share. Whether it’s a beloved family recipe or a store-bought favorite, your contribution will help make this meal even more special.

In addition to being a time of fellowship and delicious food, this brunch serves as a fundraiser for our youth. All donations will go toward supporting their participation in retreats and gatherings, providing them with meaningful opportunities for spiritual growth and community building.

We hope you’ll join us for this joyful occasion—come hungry, bring a dish if you’re able, and support our youth as they embark on their faith journeys!

NEW "I Give Online" Cards

NEW in the Friendship Pad Folders, "I Give Online" cards. For those of you who give online, you may use these to place in the offering plate as it passes. Many have expressed awkwardness when the plate passes and they are not contributing. This way you have something to place in the offering plate.

Blessing Box

Our Blessing Box is a blessing to those around us that are in need and it’s frequently empty. Please think about adding a few items when you do your weekly shop.

Just make sure you don't put regular clothes or blankets in the boxes or on the ground. You can add those to our clothing shed instead (please place in bags).

We also don't want to forget our homeless who always are in need of basic toiletries. If you choose to bring food, consider adding it to the shelves in the kitchen to be rationed out to the box daily. You may also put items in the box from the kitchen (just not everything) if you so choose.

Also remember that NO household items, clothing, expired or fresh (perishable) food should be left in the box. Also check expiration dates, anything expired will be thrown away.

Thank you for your generosity and for being a part of this wonderful initiative.

Please text or email Cheryl Herberg (615) 300-6283, if you have any questions.
