Dusting off your Faith

By Rev. Dr. Dewayne Moore

“Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.”

 Hebrews 11:1

Have you ever cleaned your house only to find that after a few days it was dusty again? It seems like an endless ritual of dusting, redusting and dusting again. When dust accumulates, it’s not the same as dirt. In fact, we don’t even see dust until it accumulates. When something gets dusty, it can still be used, but its presence indicates that whatever it covers hasn’t been used for a while.

What happens if dust starts to accumulate on our faith in God. If that happens, it means we have not exercised our faith lately. For many people, corrosive elements have seeped into our faith to the point that we have failed to move on our dreams and ambitions because there is too much dust on them.

The writer in Hebrews reminds believers that faith is a matter of trusting the unseen. The substance of our faith is directly related to the amount of trust we put in God.

Eternal life depends on our faith in God.

The more dust there is on our faith, the more doubt exist.

Many graduated from high school with big dreams and have not given up on their goals.

When our dreams gather dust, we give up, but we should never give up on God.

Who would have believed that young Albert Einstein, who failed in elementary school would become one of the world’s greatest scientists and smartest men.

Today, God challenges the inner man or woman to rise up and dust off your faith and achieve your purpose. A faith that gathers dust does not achieve a purpose. Acting on your faith draws praises from heaven.

We can do much more than we have been doing with our lives; sometimes it takes a little motivation. A mother who sat on the porch every day, tending her flowers, ignored all advice to be more active. One day as she sat on the porch she saw her toddler somehow wobble into the street in the face of ongoing traffic. The mother silently leaped down the steps, sprinted across the lawn, and jumped over the ditch to save her child from an oncoming car. Asked how she was able to do it, she said "I don't know, but I used muscles that I didn't know I had. It was either that or lose my baby." The threat of losing her child was motivation.

Every now and then God shakes up our comfort zone and pushes us to use our faith.

We must remember that it doesn't matter what situation you face, if you dust off your faith, God will see you through.

When you are dealing with heavy burdens and tough situations, Dust off your faith; turn it over to the Lord and leave it there.

Is there trouble in your home? Dust off your faith, take it to the Lord and leave it there!

Dust off your faith, trust in the Lord. He will make everything alright!

Prayer

"Lord, strengthen my faith in you today, even when things seem uncertain." Amen
