City Hall Gallery Opening Reception Highlights:

"Sculptures by the Sea" by Michael Burns

The City’s first art reception of the year for Sculptures by the Sea by Michael Burns was a huge success! The gallery was packed, the energy was electric, and the evening felt truly magical. Guests admired Burns’ stunning hand-carved wooden sculptures, enjoyed incredible live music by Austin Burns and Kurtis Ray, and indulged in a candlelit feast in the City’s courtyard. One of the evening’s highlights was an interactive scavenger hunt, where attendees matched uncarved pieces of wood to their final sculptures. This fun activity gave guests a deeper appreciation of Burns’ craftsmanship and an exciting chance to win a sculpture.

The City’s Public Arts Commission would like to thank everyone who came out to celebrate this incredible exhibit. What a fantastic way to kick off the year! We’re excited to share more inspiring exhibits with you in the months ahead. If you missed the opening, you can still see this amazing artistry on display at City Hall exhibit in person through February 27th.

Business Certificate Renewal Deadline Extended – Now with Online Payment Options!

Exciting news! The City has extended the deadline for 2025 Business Certificate Renewals to Friday, February 28th, and to make the process easier, the Finance Department has launched a pilot program for online renewal payments. For the first time ever, businesses can renew their certificates online using the new eTrakit platform (with a 2.95% processing fee). While this online payment option is just for renewals, we will also take new or changed Business Certificate applications and payments at City Hall through the end of the month. This initiative is just the first step toward expanding online payment options for City services, making payments easier and more convenient for the community. Renew your business certificate online today to avoid fines and before fees increase on March 1st.

SANDAG Conducts Value Analysis Study for LOSSAN Rail Realignment Project

After many months of work with the cities of Solana Beach, Del Mar, and San Diego, as well as the Fairgrounds and North County Transit District, SANDAG is releasing its Value Analysis Study for the LOSSAN Rail Realignment Project. The study was conducted to refine and improve potential rail realignment alternatives for consideration. As part of this process, technical staff from regional cities and agencies reviewed more than 200 ideas and developed over a dozen new alternative routes.

Residents and businesses are encouraged to learn more at two upcoming informational sessions here in Solana Beach. SANDAG will present the study at the City Council meeting on Wednesday, February 12th, at 6:00 PM. The following day, Thursday, February 13th, from 3:00 to 6:00 PM, SANDAG staff will be available at City Hall for community office hours to answer questions on the process, the details of the alternatives considered, and provide additional information on next steps.

On February 28th, the SANDAG Board of Directors will review staff recommendations and determine which alternatives will move forward for environmental review. The Staff Report with the recommendations will be released to the public on February 21st. Community members can submit written comments by emailing the Clerk of the Board (clerkoftheboard@sandag.org) by 4:00 PM on February 27th. The public may also provide oral comments in person or via Zoom during the February 28th Board meeting.
