Public Service Corps Fellowship Experience

By Kayla Brooks

As a result of my experience with the Long Beach Public Service Corps fellowship, I am now proud to serve on HUD's Youth Homelessness Systems Improvement Board. Additionally, I work as a clerical aide at the Long Beach Housing Authority. This work is particularly meaningful to me as I was a homeless youth living in transitional housing just a month ago, and I am driven by my desire to advocate for others facing similar challenges.

Artistic Entry

In honor of the late and legendary Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., this mural painted by @madsteez at Martin Luther King Elementary School in Compton serves to highlight the importance that Dr. King's legacy had on the education of Black children in the United States. This serves as a reminder for the students that anything is possible, so long as you are able to dream.
