A word about Assistant Lay Directors (ALDs)
Always a group of wonderful people to work with! Sometimes looking a little tired!
A BIG blessing to the Lay Director, Team and Pilgrims!
Key to preparing the team for the Walk and ensuring that the Walk stays on time! Don't forget the singing, and the bell!
And we urgently need some!
In the past, the BVEC started Lay Directors as Assistant Lay Directors and they worked their way up to the Lay Director position by serving a four-walk process: ALD1, ALD2, LDIT (Lay Director in Training), followed by Lay Director. This is not the Emmaus model which we are working to get back to.
The Emmaus model builds a pool, or group, of people that have experience at each of the ALD levels. Team members would no longer be doing four positions back-to-back. Team members can serve as ALD1 this year and it might be a couple of walks before choosing to serve as ALD2. From there the team member might take a break before becoming a LDIT. Serving as an ALD1 or ALD2 is not a commitment to becoming a Lay Director.
In following the model, people serve as ALD1 or ALD2 and then may return to serving in another positions on the walk, including in the Conference Room, Outside Team, Agape Team, etc. This keeps everyone fresh by NOT doing back-to-back walks. Following the model, Team Members should only be working one walk per year, allowing for new community members to serve.
For additional information, please reach out to any BVEC board member for details. This is a wonderful way to serve on the Team -- we encourage you to give it a try! Like all Team positions, the blessings are many and often unexpected!
