It is that time of year when we all begin to think about Christmas and its true meaning. Over two thousand years ago, our Lord Jesus was born of a virgin and laid in a manger – a very humble birth indeed. He then grew up perfect and gave His life for us on a cross, taking the punishment for our sins, and being raised on the third day to intervene on our behalf as He sits at the right hand of God our Father. His birth was so important as this is our Savior and Lord who was born, the King of Kings and Lord of Lords, and it is a time for us to show the love of Christ to others.
“Now after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the King, behold wise men from the East came to Jerusalem, saying, “Where is He who has been born King of the Jews? For we have seen His star in the East and have come to worship Him.” “And when they had come into the house, they saw the young Child with Mary His mother and fell down and worshipped Him. And when they had opened their treasures, they presented gifts to Him: gold, frankincense, and myrrh.” Matthew 2:1-2 and 11
In the village of Kamonkoli, Uganda, Christmas has always been a time of joy and meeting of many families together. However, the festive season also brings a quiet burden that weighs heavily on parents who struggle to provide the simple joy and tradition of gift giving. Yet for those with a saving faith in Jesus, joy still comes through the knowledge of His birth. As a ministry, we seek to help lighten this burden for the families of our sponsored children, while also teaching of Jesus sacrificial love.
