Dear Farm Friends,
Yesterday my friend called it spring whiplash, when we experience rapid changes from warm weather back to winter. The farm has indeed been feeling very springy lately, with temps in the low 60s. Cover crop growth is exploding.
| |
The greenhouse is 98% full, and many baby plants are ready for the fields.
Starting today, with some last minute repairs, tractors are working to spread soil amendments and begin preparing the soil for planting. So we can get on it right away when the next warm dry window arrives.

|
Meanwhile, we are forecast to receive a proper winter storm Wednesday and Thursday, perhaps more wintry than any yet this season. And then a warmer drencher over the weekend.
So exciting! I’m grateful, the farm and the wider world can use the moisture. And as usual, winter was all too brief this year. There’ll be plenty of time for sunshine.

Mushroom Share CSA
Provided by Grass Valley Mushrooms
This week your mushroom shares will be a mix of Oyster, Shiitake and Lion's Mane Mushrooms.
These perfect Sautéed Mushrooms (Click here) are one of the tastiest and simple dishes ever – they are hearty, taste meaty, are a little salty, and so incredibly delicious. They are amazing on their own, or you can eat these mushrooms as a side dish with steaks, pasta, pork chops, chicken, or fish.

Recipes, storage tips and inspiration on how to "Use Up" leftovers from last week: | -
These Spicy Roasted Daikon "French Fries" (Click here) are hard to stop snacking on. While they might not have the same crunch that a potato fry will have, they are rich in flavor and don't even need a dipping sauce with the blend of seasoning in the recipe!
| |
-
Make this hearty Cauliflower and Potato Curry (Click here), also known as Aloo Gobi. It is made from simple ingredients and packs in the flavor. The spices called for in the recipe are very common in curry recipes and if you don't have them in your pantry I highly recommend stocking up! Having basic South Asian spices on hand makes whipping up a delicious curry from your CSA box easy!
-
A simple blended Celery Soup (Click here) to round out your week! This soup can be dressed up with plain Greek yogurt or sour cream, Nigella and hemp seeds or a crusty piece of sourdough from your bread share, or eaten plain!
