ARTICLES & VIDEOS: NEW THIS ISSUE

Timothy Corrigan, award-winning interior designer and a member of the ICAA Board of Directors, presents a new five-episode series about his eighteenth-century home in the French countryside, Château de la Chevallerie. Starting with the remarkable history of the estate, he reflects on the unique joys and challenges of how he faithfully renovated the house and its gardens, redecorated the interiors while still honoring their historical artisanship, and made the château suitable for life in the twenty-first century.

Marjorie Merriweather Post (1887-1973) was one of the most influential collectors, philanthropists, and businesswomen of the twentieth century. She designed and decorated a multitude of impressive residences, working with a select number of designers, architects and dealers, including Sir Joseph Duveen, French & Company, and McMillan Inc., among others. Through these relationships, and as a result of her frequent travels overseas, she developed an interest in French 18th-century art and interiors, including paneling, furniture, porcelain, paintings, clocks, sculpture, and precious jewels and objects of virtue, many of which came with a royal provenance. This lecture explores Post’s passion for French interiors and her design and replication of the French Drawing Room in many of her residences, culminating at Hillwood.

ARTICLES & VIDEOS: PREVIOUS ISSUE

To mark the publication of the third and final volume of the Lutyens Memorial Volumes, Sam Roche, Catesby Leigh, and Charles Warren explored the work of Sir Edwin Lutyens in a discussion focused on his rejuvenation of architectural traditions. Through an examination of particular buildings and with the aid of drawings and photographs, the panelists explored Lutyens’s complex compositions of mass, space and detail, endeavoring to enrich our understanding of the work and its place in the long sweep of classical architecture.

The Architecture of Sir Edwin Lutyens: Public Buildings and Memorials showcases Lutyens’ detailed plans and elevations for the greatest examples of his townhouse renovations, memorials and public buildings, including the Cenotaph at Westminster, the Thiepval Memorial, and the colossal Midland Bank building in Manchester.
