GRADUATION

Online graduation application for Spring 2025 is OPEN in your MyBGSU - deadline to apply online is Friday, February 7. If you are planning to complete degree or certificate requirements during the Spring 2025 semester, you should apply for graduation. Remember, you can always check your progress by running a degree audit.

SMALL GRANT PANEL

The Graduate College, in partnership with the Center for Faculty Excellence, is developing a new workshop for the upcoming spring semester (date TBD) to educate graduate students on their options for small grant requests to support research endeavors. We are seeking a panel moderator and panelists for this event. Specifically, we are looking for faculty or students who have successfully obtained small grants and can share their experiences in navigating the grant application process. Please contact Kim Fleshman by January 31, 2025, to indicate your interest in being a moderator or panelist.

ENTER THREE MINUTE THESIS (3MT) COMPETITION

Want to share your research? The Three Minute Thesis (3MT) competition will be held Feb. 20. and is a great place to hone your presentation and research communication skills while sharing your knowledge in three minutes using a single static PowerPoint slide. You will want to use language that someone who is not in your field, will still understand.


The deadline to register is Friday, Feb. 7 (entries received after that date will be considered if space is available). Competitors need to submit their presentation slide by Feb. 14 by 5pm.


Prizes:

1st Place: $500*

2nd Place: $300

3rd Place: $200

*The first-place winner will also be entered into the Midwestern Association of Graduate Schools (MAGS) 3MT competition, which will be held on April 4, 2025 in Indianapolis, IN.

APPLY TO BE A GRADUATE STUDENT AMBASSADOR

Ambassadors will assist with outreach to incoming students over the summer and serve as a resource for these students. Additionally, they may assist with other recruitment and outreach activities during the academic year. This position runs from Summer 2025 - Spring 2026.  

 

Little time commitment; big impact! Work 1-2 hours a week on average over the summer.

SOCIAL JUSTICE THROUGH SPORT AND EXERCISE PSYCHOLOGY SYMPOSIUM

Call for abstracts for the upcoming symposium to be held on campus March 27-29. The symposium is a platform for bringing together researchers and practitioners to discuss contemporary issues in sport. We broadly address topics of social justice and sport relevant across many of our disciplines.

Abstracts will be accepted through Feb. 3.

EARN YOUR PROFESSIONAL ENGAGEMENT CERTIFICATE

If you attend at least five different CFE workshops and sessions that cover the five different session categories this academic year, you can earn your Professional Engagement Certificate. By participating in the certificate program, you will set an action plan for your professional development, explore innovative teaching strategies that maximize student learning, interact with colleagues from across the BGSU teaching community, reflect on how your participation in CFE workshops and sessions has impacted your work, instruction, beliefs, and attitudes, and share the practices and strategies from the CFE workshops and sessions you attended with colleagues.

COMMUNITIES OF PRACTICE


GRADUATE STUDENT INSTRUCTOR LEARNING COMMUNITY

Balancing your academic and teaching roles as a Graduate Student Instructor can be overwhelming. This learning community is open to current graduate student instructors and graduate student instructors preparing to teach in the upcoming semester. This community will meet in-person three times and virtually three times on Monday morning from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Participants who successfully meet the community learning outcomes and participant requirements will receive a $100 honorarium at the end of the semester.

THE CREATIVE RESEARCH COLLECTIVE

The Creative Research Collective Community of Practice will explore and discuss research practices that intersect with arts-based methods, critical ethnography, and feminist reflexivity. This community welcomes anyone interested in discovering how creative, interdisciplinary approaches can enhance and expand research beyond traditional methodologies. This community will meet five times in the spring. Meetings will take place on Friday mornings from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. and will consist of in-person and online meetings.

GENDERED REGIMES OF AI COMMUNITY OF PRACTICE

This community of practice will explore generative AI tools such as Midjourney, Claude, and ChatGPT and how their use and circulation produces visual and textual realities. Through a feminist pedagogy and research-driven praxis, we will ask if AI can and should be integrated into classroom practices. Open to all BGSU faculty, instructors, and graduate students, this community will meet Fridays from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. five times during the semester in combination of in-person and virtual meetings.

NCFDD VIRTUAL WRITING SESSION

Looking for some writing inspiration and accountability? Join the NCFDD’s live Write On-Site session on Zoom to write together in a community. The session will begin with a brief introduction, followed by 30 minutes for writing and then reflections.  Register for this event by logging into your BGSU-sponsored NCFDD account and visiting the Events tab.

UNLOCKING STUDENT POTENTIAL USING PROCESS ORIENTED GUIDED INQUIRY LEARNING (POGIL)

FALCON FOOD PANTRY

The Falcon Food Pantry is both collecting new or gently used (clean) hats and gloves and giving them to anyone in need. Feel free to stop by to either drop off or pick up a hat or a pair of gloves during this cold weather!


The Falcon Food Pantry is here to support BGSU students, faculty, and staff with nutritious and accessible food. Diapers and hygiene items are also available. All members of the BGSU community are welcome to stop by once a week to select a bag of food and hygiene items. Please bring your BGSU ID card with you.

The BGSU Counseling Center is here to help you connect to mental health resources on and around campus if or when you need them.

 

  • If you need mental health support, the BGSU Counseling Center is open and available to you. To set an appointment or speak with an on-call counselor for crisis situations, call 419-372-2081 between 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays. You can also utilize the Wood County Crisis Line at 419-502-4673, which is open 24/7 to those in Wood County.
  • Falcon Health Chat is a free and confidential tool, available 24/7 to all BGSU students, faculty and staff. Falcon Health Chat can help support your mental health by offering resources to help you manage anxiety and depression, relieve stress, and build resilience.
