Happy New Year and Welcome to 2025!
January is an important month for us as we celebrate Crime Stoppers Month in Tay Township. To show our support, Council members, staff, and Crime Stoppers Simcoe-Dufferin-Muskoka representatives gathered to raise the Crime Stoppers flag. The impact of this program is significant. Since its launch, anonymous tips have led to 5,297 arrests, the recovery of over $13.5 million in stolen property, and the seizure of illegal drugs worth over $80 million. Additionally, Crime Stoppers has issued over $446,000 in cash rewards and received more than 74,000 tips. This is a powerful reminder of how community involvement plays a crucial role in keeping our neighbourhoods safe.
While we celebrate those that have made outstanding contributions to our community, we also want to focus on the future by engaging our youth in meaningful opportunities. If you’re passionate about making a difference for young people in Tay, we invite you to join the Victoria Harbour Recreation Committee for a community meeting to discuss the possibility of forming a Youth Activity Committee. This is a great opportunity for you to share your ideas and help us design meaningful, fun and engaging activities for young people in our community. The meeting will take place on Tuesday, February 4th at 7:00 pm in the Harbour Shore Community Room (145 Albert Street, Victoria Harbour). Whether you have ideas, questions, or just want to learn more, we welcome your input.
Tay Township is excited to announce the launch of a survey as part of the development of our Parks and Recreation Master Plan. This important initiative will help shape the future of recreation facilities, parks, programs, and events for the next 20 years. We encourage all residents to participate by completing the survey, which asks for feedback on the use of parks, trails, recreation facilities and activities, as well as priorities for future services. The survey is open until February 18, 2025, and can be completed online or by picking up a hard copy at the Municipal Office (450 Park Street, Victoria Harbour) during regular business hours. Your input is invaluable in helping us build a thriving community for years to come!
A reminder that nominations are now open for the 2025 Citizen of the Year. This is a wonderful opportunity to honour those who have made a significant impact in our community. We’re accepting nominations in categories such as Arts/Literature, Community Service, Education and more! If you know someone whose contributions deserve recognition, please consider submitting a nomination. Forms are available online or at the Municipal Office. You can submit completed forms by emailing Denise Campbell at dcampbell@tay.ca or by dropping them off at the Municipal Office. The deadline to submit is February 28, 2025.
As we move into 2025, let’s remember that our community’s strength comes from the support and involvement of each individual. Together we can make a lasting difference—thank you for being part of this journey!
Until next time, Mayor Ted Walker twalker@tay.ca.
