We had our January Sunny’s Way assemblies!
Last month students were focused on following winter playground expectations. Congratulations to our students of the month who exemplified the Sunny Way through their respectful words and actions on the playground.

Dear Sunset Ridge Families,
I'm happy to share that we are ready to go with Superteacher, which is an AI tutoring app that uses voice recognition technology to "talk" with students as it tutors them through a variety of self-selected elementary-level courses. It was designed by educators, has strong safety protocols (collects very little info - not even last names, is FERPA and COPPA compliant), and is an example of the kind of tool that could be a game-changer in terms of student learning.
It's totally optional for you, but I would welcome your feedback should you choose to use it! This will not be replacing the core curriculum of what we're teaching in schools - it's intended to be a supplemental tool for learning.
We have a free license for the district for this semester, and we'll decide about buying it based on what we learn. The flyer has the login directions. In the next days, we expect to send home students' Clever badges with them. That would be a QR code on a paper about the size of a Post-It note. Once you download the app on a device, you can click "Log in with Clever" and scan your child's QR code.
I'd welcome any feedback or questions around this app or any other AI-related work. I'm co-leading this work in our district with our Director of Technology and believe that we can keep kids and their data safe while teaching them about the amazing potential for artificial intelligence for teaching, learning, and productivity.

Spring Carnival in Jeopardy! | |
Uh-oh, friends! Our Spring Carnival—the event our kids love and a key fundraiser for our playground—might not happen this year. Why? Because we have exactly ONE volunteer to help PLAN. Yep, just one. And as much as we admire their dedication, they can’t plan the carnival solo (unless they have superpowers… and even then, it’d be a stretch!). We need YOUR help! If we don’t have enough volunteers by February 11, the carnival will have to be canceled. Let’s make sure our kids get the fun-filled day they deserve AND bring in funds for our much-needed playground. Sign up today to help plan and be a carnival hero!

Cross Plains Optimist Club honored Sunsets very own 4th Grade student Vivian Richgels at their January Student of the Month. Vivian is involved in orchestra, safety patrol, the Do Something Good Club, soccer, volleyball and golf! Her teachers say "Vivian embodies inclusivity, empathy, and hard work. She always has a positive attitude and is willing to help anyone in need. She has grit in the face of challenges & strives to help others see their strengths as well." Great work & Congratulations Vivian! |
The Cross Plains Optimist Club makes generous annual donations to each school in the area when they recognize the Student of the Month. This year, we thought it was a great use of the money to dedicate the $500 check toward the Do Something Good club as it seems like a fitting match to the Optimist Club purpose.
Wendy Judd our 2nd Grade Teacher helps with this organization thank you so much for all of our hard working volunteers, families and staff for hosting such an amazing club!
