Part of the 2025 BVZ Launch Cohort—an inspiring group of all women-led startups solving critical problems in Health & Wellness—Maman Biomedical is shaping the future of healthcare in Brampton and beyond.


Maman Biomedical is transforming fertility treatments by eliminating the burden of daily injections for women. Using cutting-edge drug delivery technologies, they’ve developed innovative therapeutic gels and patches that replace multiple daily injections with a needle-free solution.


Founded by Dr. Latchmi Raghunanan, PhD, Maman Biomedical draws from her expertise in materials science and her personal experiences with infertility. With five patents and a track record of driving innovations toward clinical trials, Dr. Raghunanan is committed to revolutionizing reproductive health with compassion and accessibility at its core.


Recognized in Spring’s 2025 Women-Led Top Founders list as part of the Invest Together in Women-Led Impact founder cohort, Maman Biomedical is among the Top 15 ventures making a profound difference in people’s lives and the health of our planet.

 

DISTRICT WINS

2024 was a milestone year for Brampton Angels, a key partner in fostering innovation in our community! In less than two years, they’ve grown to 55 active angels, deployed over $2.4+ million across four early-stage startups since June 2024, and expanded their pipeline of support for emerging founders.


Brampton Angels - Angel Investing 101 educational series, led by industry experts from the innovation and venture capital community, has been instrumental in empowering both new and seasoned angel investors. This initiative has strengthened investor knowledge and engagement by fostering collaboration within the innovation ecosystem and bringing in expert speakers.



We are proud to support the growth of angel investing through this collaboration between the City of Brampton, Altitude Accelerator, and the Brampton Angels investor board. Congratulations to Brampton Angels on their incredible achievements, and here's to a successful 2025 as they continue to build on this momentum!

Navigating the U.S. Tariff Changes

The U.S. has announced a 25% tariff on Canadian goods, now delayed by 30 days, giving businesses time to assess the impact and adjust strategies.


The City of Brampton Tariff Resource Hub provides key resources to support businesses, including:


  • Tariff Impact Survey – Help shape advocacy efforts by sharing how tariffs affect your business.
  • Brampton Business Support – Connect with our team for one-on-one guidance.
  • Upcoming Events & Webinars – Gain insights from trade experts and industry leaders.
  • Business Resources – Explore tools like the Canada Tariff Finder, funding programs, and government support initiatives.

Unity Centre Sparks Creativity at Demo Day

Algoma University, in collaboration with the Brampton Innovation District and Unity Centre for Excellence, recently hosted the inaugural Startup GameJam in Brampton, culminating in a Demo Day that celebrated creativity and innovation.

Five student teams, after over 60 hours of development, showcased their game prototypes to industry judges, impressing with their creativity, technical skills, and entrepreneurial spirit.


This event exemplifies how the Innovation District fosters collaboration and sparks new ideas while driving economic growth in Brampton’s downtown core. It’s exciting to see the Innovation District buzzing with talent and innovation!

CSA Space R&D Funding

Funding for Space R&D – The Canadian Space Agency (CSA) is offering non-repayable contributions through its Space Technology Development Program (STDP) to support space innovation.


Funding: Up to $1M per project


Funding: Up to $350K per project


  • STDP AO 9.3: Next-Gen Tech – Focuses on groundbreaking, high-risk, high-reward space innovations with commercialization potential.

Funding: Up to $500K per project


Deadline: Register intent by Feb 5, 2025.

Life Sciences Scale-Up Fund (LSSUF)

The Life Sciences Scale-up Fund (LSSUF) provides financial support to help small-to-medium sized enterprises (SMEs) scale up in the life sciences sector. LSSUF aims to help build a pipeline of strong innovative SMEs based in Ontario (or intending to relocate to Ontario) that are ready to respond to procurement opportunities.


The Ontario government’s Life Sciences Scale-Up Fund offers small-to-medium sized enterprises (SMEs) up to $2.5M in funding for scaling operations, commercializing products, and advancing new technologies.


Application Deadline: March 3, 2025, at 5:00 PM EST

Taipei Canadian Technology Accelerator (CTA)

The Canadian Technology Accelerator (CTA) in Taipei is recruiting companies that offer solutions relevant to the AI applications and deep technologies in various sectors. Through this business development program, you will gain access to leading companies in the global information and communications technology sector and validate your technology. You will also benefit from strategic partnerships between Canada and Taiwanese industries.


Canadian SMEs in AI, edge computing, advanced communication, semiconductors, or smart mobility are invited to join this international accelerator program.
