A Special Message from Maryjane Kuhn

UTO (United Thank Offering) has been a ministry at Emmanuel for decades, and our renewed focus brings many memories to mind. As chair of UTO for Episcopal Church Women of our diocese for 6 years, I traveled to many churches to encourage a UTO daily habit. There is something to be thankful for in every day, even on bad days. And thinking about what you are grateful for often raises your mood.

I also remember the practical way I helped fill our Blue Box - any money that got left in pockets and came out in the laundry went in the box! Although, once when my daughter Jodie left a $20 bill in her jeans pocket from babysitting, I made her tithe! We also kept a blue box next to a fridge and asked employees to put change in when they got a soda or water, etc.

It doesn't sound like much but 365 days of coins or dollar bills adds up. If 100 people do it in each church in our diocese - 42 active churches - and then beyond - it becomes a million dollars to grant! So grab a blue box, and start a habit of being thankful with UTO!

CHRISTIAN EDUCATION AND FORMATION

Please join the Justice & Equity pillar this Sunday after the 9:30am service for a frank discussion on a question. “Do We Really Need to Keep Talking about Racism?”. The answer is no and yes. Two things can be true at once. Join us and guest speaker, Marcel Hagens (They/Them) from Action St. Louis. Marcel will guide us through some questions such as: "What’s in it for me?", "Why should I care?", "Does this really impact me?", and "What can I do anyway?"

A special invitation to our youth grades 6-12 (to add their unique perspectives) and their parents. Not only will we will have better than usual snacks, we will also have drawings for Cbabi Bayoc prints (3) and Eye See Me bookstore gift certificates (2). See you at 10:30 Sunday, Feb. 2!!
