Library 1896

The Southwest Harbor Public Library - #5634

Professor Eleazer Bartlett Homer was the architect who designed the library; he received his B.S. in Architecture from MIT in 1885, designing the library ten years later. He later went on to serve as the first director for the Rhode Island School of Design. Click here for a picture of Eleazer and his wife Elizabeth Frances riding a tandem tricycle in Belmont, Massachusetts. Melvin Norwood was the lowest bidder and was awarded the contract to build the library in 1896.
