Spring Into Action!

Outdoor play offers a world of benefits for young children, from helping them build social skills to supporting physical health. For children of all ages, outside activities provide a chance to explore nature, develop coordination, and improve their mood, all things we value here at Collage Day School. Best of all, outdoor activities require little to no special equipment. With just a few simple materials and some creativity, families can enjoy hours of fun together. Here are some outdoor activities to enjoy with your children this spring:

  • Bubble Fun – Blow bubbles and watch your children chase them around. Bubbles are a great way to improve hand-eye coordination and inspire laughter. Infants will be fascinated by the floating bubbles, while toddlers can practice running or jumping to pop them.
  • Sidewalk Chalk Art – Use sidewalk chalk and create a drawing together. For infants, try simple shapes or talk about the color of the chalk while you trace their handprint. Toddlers can practice writing their names or creating more detailed artwork. This activity helps with development of fine motor skills and encourages creativity.
  • Parachute Play – Locate a large piece of fabric or a colorful blanket and ask your child to hold the edges and gently shake it to make the “parachute” move. Infants love seeing the motion and bright colors, while toddlers and older children can play games, making the parachute rise and fall or hiding underneath it.
  • Reading Outdoors – Reading can be a relaxing and enjoyable way to spend time in the fresh air. Set up a cozy spot with a blanket and a few of your child’s favorite books. As you read, talk about the pictures and encourage your child to point to things they recognize. For infants, you can start with board books that have bright pictures and textures. Toddlers can enjoy stories with simple words, rhymes, and fun illustrations. Spending time reading outdoors strengthens language skills and gives children the opportunity to connect with nature while learning.

Whether it’s through unstructured play, simple games or just spending time together outdoors, you can create opportunities for learning, bonding, and joyful exploration.

Explore the World at Collage's International Festival

March begins our international unit of study! We are so excited to bring both campuses together for this month's one-of-a-kind cultural learning experience. Each class, from infants to 5th grade, will represent one country in our International Festival on March 27, showcasing various crafts, activities, and artifacts that represent their country of study. All students will receive a passport to collect stamps during their tour, and parents are invited to "explore the world" with their child, learning about different countries along the way. Keep your eye out for specific details about the event schedule. We would love everyone to come out and celebrate different cultures from around the world with us!

Fashion Fun Fridays Inspired by Dr. Seuss' “Oh, the places you’ll go!”

As students study international cultures and with the International Festival taking place on campus later this month, we thought it would be fitting for this month's Fashion Fun Fridays (FFFs) theme to be International Travel. Students participating in FFFs can wear touristy themed shirts! Shirts can have travel destinations or phrases on them, such as "Let's Travel" or "Let's Explore", or even images like a camera or globe. Just remember, all outfits must meet school standards and rules. To participate, send in $2 with your child each Friday. Cash payments can be submitted to your child's teacher. Otherwise, students must be dressed in uniform.

*Please note that all other elements of the school dress code still apply. Any dress down days must be within school standards and all attire must be school appropriate. Also note that students who are not participating, do not sign up and pay, must be in uniform on these days.
