Music Without Borders on The Stage at Saint Andrew's

This Sunday

For anyone interested in how we rebuild the habits of solidarity and resist the disconnecting tides of individualism, this is a good time for COMMUNION. This Sunday the weather might be messy, but our sanctuary and service will truly be a refuge from all manner of storm.

Susan will reflect on a biblical text that has seen some political trauma (and drama). Will Austin will offer a song from the Mumford & Sons canon,

and the choir will sing an absolutely beautiful anthem, Locus Iste by Anton Bruckner, as we share the communion bread and the cup.

Locus Iste translates to This place was made by God.

See you Sunday at this place - our place - Saint Andrew's.

Be a Sunday Service Greeter

Recognize these smiles? A big thank you to Will and Anne Webster and many more of you who greet on Sunday Mornings.

We have a roster for the Welcome Table, where name tags are given, along with a warm hello to everyone who comes through the door. This is a very important element of Sunday Services - wouldn't you agree? Please consider taking a turn.

If you're interested in being a greeter once a month, you can schedule yourself by clicking the link in the box below, or let Susan know in person.

Annual Call for Volunteers

Saint Andrew's is hosting its annual Pancake Supper on Shrove Tuesday (March 4).

We are looking for volunteers to help at the supper. Sign up sheets will be available on Sunday morning, or you can send an email to info@saintandrewshfx.ca.

Details of the event will be shared next week!

Volunteer Drivers Needed

Capella Regalis Choir is a local music organization that seeks to build upon the best aspects of the centuries-old European tradition of church choirs and to revitalize this method of music training in Canada. Their children’s choirs rehearse weekly at Saint Andrew’s and regularly sing Evensong services at the Cathedral Church of All Saints.

They are seeking volunteer drivers to support their Transportation Program, which provides rides to and from weekly rehearsals for choristers who otherwise would not be able to participate.

This is a low-commitment, meaningful way to help young people in Halifax benefit from the life-enriching experience of singing in a choir at Saint Andrew's.

Interested volunteers are asked to contact hallister@capellaregalis.com

February 15 on The Stage at Saint Andrew's

Music Without Borders shines a spotlight on the creative contributions of Arab women through Hanim | هانم, a special concert celebrating iconic Arab women in music like Umm Kulthum, Asmahan, Fairouz, Sabah, Shadia, Warda, Mayada El Hennawy, and others.

The Arab world has a rich musical heritage that is in no small part due to its women singers. This concert features the exceptional voice of Ranya Jamal and is under the esteemed direction of Syrian-Canadian musician Gaby Al Botros.

Music Without Borders is on The Stage at Saint Andrew's on Saturday at 7:30pm.
