Urgent Call for Donation for Soup-er Thankful Lunch for Staff!

Soup

On Thursday, November 21, your PTSA will be hosting our Soup-er Thankful Lunch for our fantastic staff. This is our chance to show how thankful we are for all they do for our school, kids, and community. Please show your support by signing up to donate an item on our lunch menu – a crockpot of soup, bread, crackers, drinks or a dessert.

Items can be dropped off in the main office on Thursday, November 21 until 9:45am. If you are bringing in a soup, please consider using a crockpot/slow cooker liner for ease of clean up. We can provide a liner for you if you contact appreciation@redmondhsptsa.org.

As always, we thank you for your generosity in celebrating our RHS staff.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

Help Shape Next Year's PTSA by Being in Nom Comm!

RHS PTSA is forming this year's Nominating Committee and we need 3 people to serve on this very important committee. The role of the nominating committee member is to help find the most qualified people to serve on next year's PTSA Board. The committee is made up of 3 current PTSA members who will be selected to the the committee by the general membership at our General Membership meeting on Wednesday, January 15, 2025. The Committee will present a slate of Board candidates for election at our General Membership meeting on Wednesday, April 23, 2025 so this is a great short-term volunteer position for anyone that would like to get involved with the PTSA. Time commitment is based on how the committee structures itself and most of it will be comprised of email or phone communication with potential board candidates.

Effective candidates for Nom Com should be familiar with the needs and goals of the PTSA, possess tact, discretion, and understand confidentiality, and demonstrate sound judgment in evaluating potential nominees for a Board position. Training and templates will be provided.

Thinking About Computing in College and Career

Tesla STEM High School PTSA will be hosting an informational session, "Thinking About Computing in College and Career" on Tuesday, November 19 from 6:30-7:30pm. Students and parents from any school are welcome to attend.

Michael Stiber, Ph.D. Dr. Stiber is Professor and Chair of Computing & Software Systems at the University of Washington, Bothell.

Whether you’ve wanted to build hardware and software for years or aren’t sure about studying or working in computing, computing is almost certainly going to be a part of your studies, career, and life. In this talk, I’ll discuss some thoughts about college: preparing and applying, comparing different universities, and majors and minors. I’ll also provide some insight into different career pathways and how computing figures into them — and some ideas how you can combine computing with a wide range of different majors in college. I’ll also happily answer any questions you might have regarding these topics.

Reserve your space and to receive the link to join the Zoom meeting. Meeting link will be provided to all registered participants one day prior to the meeting. If you do not receive the link, please send an email to vp.programs@teslaptsa.org.

Support the LWSD Toy Drive

This holiday season let's come together to spread joy and make a difference by supporting the Lake Washington School District Winter Toy Drive. Your donation of a new, unwrapped toy will make this season a little more special for children across our district.

The Winter Toy Drive runs from now until Tuesday, December 10, and toys and gifts are needed for children and teens ages 5–18. Let's ensure that every child in our community experiences the magic of the holidays.

COLLEGE CAREER & COUNSELLING

RHS Youth Apprenticeship Fair

Monday, November 18 from 12-1:30pm in the College and Career Center

Would you like to earn money and learn at the same time? Then check out apprenticeships! They're a combination of hands-on training and academic classes. Apprenticeships prepare you for what are often high-demand, high-skilled careers. Here are all the benefits to consider:

  • Earn while you learn. Youth apprentices are paid a wage while they learn valuable job skills.
  • Discover your dream job. Confirm that the industry you selected is a good fit for you, saving you time and money in pursuing costly higher education or technical training after high school.
  • Get a head start. Youth apprentices have an advantage over other candidates when seeking employment after high school, because they develop valuable career skills and a professional network.
  • Become more confident. Gain self-assurance by working independently under the tutelage of a mentor.
  • Make new friends. Youth apprenticeship programs attract a diverse group of students.

This event is located in the College and Career Center and is for all students; no sign-up is required. Feel free to talk to our event partners to learn more about the various apprenticeships and get your questions answered. These are the programs and companies at the fair:

  • ApprenticePath
  • WA State Chefs Association
  • COPE Health Solutions
  • Career Connect WA
  • AJAC Advanced Manufacturing Apprenticeships
  • SEIU Healthcare

If you have any questions regarding this event, please contact Rose Wu at rwu@lwsd.org.
