Meat Institute visits HHI Training Center

The Meat Institute held the fall in-person Animal Welfare Committee meeting at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls. It was an honor to host this meeting on our campus. The group toured the UWRF Meat Lab and our training center, where they engaged in hands-on practice with captive bolt assembly. This experience not only facilitated valuable discussions but also allowed us to showcase our ongoing research initiatives. We appreciate the opportunity to collaborate with such dedicated professionals in the field of animal welfare.

UPCOMING EVENTS

Animal Welfare Assessment Contest held at UW-River Falls, Nov. 22-24.

Students from universities across North America will convene on the UW-River Falls campus to participate in the only animal welfare judging contest of its kind! This unique event will challenge participants to apply their research and ethical considerations as they evaluate the welfare of various animals, including lactating dairy cows, penguins in zoos, laboratory frogs, and breeding dogs. We look forward to fostering insightful discussions and promoting best practices in animal welfare through this engaging competition.

Build a Robust Systemic Approach to Animal Welfare

Trainees will create a written humane handling program to comply with the Humane Slaughter Act and leave with a complete collection of documents and training materials specific to their slaughter establishment.
