Spring is in full bloom, and we have a month packed with exciting events for all ages! Whether you're a budding scientist, a young gardener, a creative artist, or a book lover, there’s something for you at the library.


  • Mad Peep Scientists: Get ready to unleash your inner candy chemist as we dive into fun and educational science experiments featuring spring's favorite marshmallow treat—Peep candy! (ages 8-11, registration required)


  • Alcohol Ink Coasters: Don’t miss out on the chance to create stunning coasters that showcase your artistic flair! (ages 18+, registration required)


  • Kids in the Garden: Come learn more about California native plants, why they're so important, and how they help our environment. (ages 8-12, registration required)


  • Friends of the Library quarterly book sale April 25 & 26. Don't miss out on this chance to find new-used books for as low as 25 cents and support the library at the same time!
  • AARP Tax Aid will be at the library until April 9th to prepare taxes. You don't need to be a senior citizen to qualify for this free program. Please call (916) 672-1182 to schedule an appointment.

Tea of the Month

Ongoing through April


Participate in our free, passive adult program!

Stay cozy and refreshed with our Tea of the Month program that features a new mystery tea type and flavor each month. Tea of the Month is perfect for anyone, from the novice tea drinker or the connoisseur looking to explore the excitement of a wide range of teas. Don’t drink caffeinated beverages? You can still participate- we always have a decaf option available.


Each month a new tea type and flavor is carefully hand-selected. Each month’s bag will contain a single serving of bagged tea specially curated around a monthly theme along with other fun surprises.


Pick one up at the circulation desk, available while supplies last!

This will be the last tea until this program goes on hiatus until fall.

AARP Tax Preparation Help


April 1st - 9th

every Tuesday & Wednesday

1- 4 pm by appointment only


The Tax-Aide Program offers free federal and state tax preparation. This service is offered by appointment only and is sponsored by the IRS and AARP. The service is available to all taxpayers with no age or membership restrictions. All returns are filed electronically and refunds are available by direct deposit. Appointments may be made by phoning 916-672-1182.

Japanese Storytime with Malie-san


Wednesday, April 9th & 23rd

10:30 - 11:00 am

Ages 2-5

Join us for 30 minutes of fun with stories, songs, and learning hiragana letters.

Please try to arrive 10-15 minutes early. All language speakers welcome. Adult supervision required.

Kids Creative Writing Club

Ages 8-11

​Looking for a club to support your young poet, journalist, or future bestselling author? Then join Miss Olivia at the Loomis Library and Community Learning Center's Creative Writing Club for fun activities and lessons all about the art of writing! From poetry to comics, we will explore and conquer countless ways to express yourself through literary means.

Genealogy Study Group

Friday, April 11th 1–3pm


German-Americans make up the largest ancestry group in the U.S.. Learn the basics of researching your German ancestors – from finding the village of origin to reading German church books. There are lots of websites and online resources to help.

Spice Club: Lentils

Read to a Dog

Why read to a dog?

  • Reading to a dog builds confidence in emerging readers.
  • Reading to a dog builds public speaking skills.
  • Reading to a dog reduces stress.


And it's super fun! Our furry friends love to hear stories and never make judgments if any mistakes are made. Bring a favorite book from home or select one from our collection and join us for an hour of reading fun!

Preschool Storytime - Every Friday at 10:30 am

Join us inside in the Jessie Helms community room for Preschool Storytime every Friday at 10:30 am. We sing, dance, recite fingerplays, and listen to stories! Stay after for a craft, free playtime, and time to talk with other parents, grandparents, and caregivers. Please arrive 10 minutes early to get yourself settled before the story starts.

Browse the library after storytime and bring home a take-and-make craft kit to extend the fun at home.
