One Community One Family

Dear Christ the King Catholic School,

This week we celebrate Christ as our King through prayer, fun activities, and a special Friday mass in love and reverence of Christ – led by Father Paulson and our 8th-grade class of 2025. Father Paulson and Sister Dominic have led wonderful novenas for Christ our King at morning prayer and assembly. A special thank you to student council moderators Aimee Karst and Jessica Monroy, and the executive/student council for preparing such an awesome week to celebrate Christ.

Christ the King is one of the names of Jesus found in various forms in scripture. The Feast of Christ the King was instituted by Pope Pius XI in his encyclical “Quas Primas” in 1925. This year Christ’s Feast Day lands on Sunday, November 24, 2024. As a response to the secularism and upheaval between nations at that time, Pope Pius XI stated, “We must look for the peace of Christ in the Kingdom of Christ.” We are so blessed to have Christ as our King, blessing and leading our days as One Community One Family. All glory and honor to God, His son Jesus, and our Holy Mother Mary.

Likewise, we are excited for Miss Thornbury and our 7th-grade students, their families, our staff, and chaperones as they travel for a transformative week to Camp Caritas in Occidental, California. Yesterday morning we blessed this very special group of students and families as our seventh graders and chaperones began their week-long journey. Father Paulson and I traveled up to Camp Caritas, today, to visit/bless everyone at camp, and travel back for our parish council meeting in the late afternoon as planned.

Catholic Charities CYO Camp is a comprehensive, 5-day residential environmental education experience for young people. The program offers a blend of age-appropriate science curriculum aligned with the Next Generation Science Standards and retreat-style activities fostering social, spiritual, and academic development for youth from diverse backgrounds. One of the unique aspects of the program is the faith community-building experience, where the focus is placed on recognizing the individual’s unique gifts and strengths. Through hands-on exploration, Catholic Charities CYO endeavors to illuminate the divine in all things and build empathy and understanding for the natural world.

In closing, I pray that each of you experiences a joyful/peaceful/blessed Thanksgiving break/day/meal with your family and loved ones. I am very grateful for your generosity with our annual Saint Vincent De Paul Food Drive. In good faith and with charity of heart, all supplies were delivered yesterday morning to the Saint Vincent De Paul Pantry in good faith. In this month of gratitude, I thank God for each of you and your commitment and important place in our school’s strong education and faith-filled legacy.

An awesome quote from Pope John Paul II captures this time of the year wonderfully, “Remember the past with gratitude. Live the present with enthusiasm. Look forward to the future with confidence.” God bless our special community as we await Thanksgiving and can now see the light and spirit of the Advent season arriving soon,

Prayers

Dear Heavenly Father, please watch over us while we prepare for Thanksgiving. Help us to count our blessings and be thankful for all that we have. All too often it is easy to get caught up in our wants and desires. Let us remember to say Thank you and realize that You have provided so much for us and our CTK community.

We pray for Milo Psara’s (KIndergarten) grandfather who is in the hospital recovering from an illness.

If you have special intentions please email Mrs. Meran here so we can include them in our next newsletter.

Christ the King Spirit Week

Christ the King Spirit Week!

November 18th - November 22nd

Hello CTK! We are excited to announce that Student Leadership will be hosting a Spirit Week in honor of the Christ the King feast day. We have lots of fun activities for the school to connect us as a community. Here is what we have planned:

Wednesday, November 20 - Wisdom Wednesday. Wear silly socks with your spirit wear to show that wisdom does not always have to mean being serious.

Thursday, November 21 - One Community, One Family, One Team. Wear your favorite jersey as a way of showing that we are all a part of one team and God loves all of us no matter what jersey we wear or what we look like.

Friday, November 22 - Cross Day. Wear your cross necklace and Dress Uniform to remind you of God's love and that are a special part of Christ the King's One Community One Family.

We look forward to a wonderful week of honoring Christ the King and celebrating our school community!

Lord, Jesus Christ, Our Sovereign King

the beginning and end of all things,

you have made your Church to be a people

that bears witness to the goodness and beauty of your kingdom.

Sincerely,

The Student Leadership Team

Christmas Program

CHRISTMAS IS COMING!

Your awesome children and I are so excited to be preparing our 2024 Christmas Program, “Simple Gifts.” The program will premier for an open dress rehearsal on Tuesday, December 10th at 1:00 PM. Our main performance will be Thursday December 12 at 7:00pm. Doors open at 6:30pm. Space is limited at the main performance, and we suggest Grandparents and other loved ones consider attending the Tuesday dress rehearsal instead, where seating is plentiful.

Click here to see a detailed description about what your child needs to wear for the program.

Please, no photos, videos or phones during the program. Cameras and phones distract the children and other audience members, and people moving about during the program cause others to miss out. New this year, there will be a photo backdrop area outside of the church before and after the program. This will be your opportunity to commemorate the occasion with as many photos and videos of your child as you wish! In addition, we will have our program live-streamed and it will be available live (for those who are unable to attend) as well as after the program. Password information will be provided closer to the program dates.

I am thrilled to be creating this program with the students as we bring joy, give kids a sense of agency, and celebrate Jesus!

Love, Mrs. H.

Congratulations

In the spring of 2024, the 7th graders (current 8th graders) had the opportunity to submit their writing to the Bow Seat Ocean Awareness Contest. The prompt asked students to reflect on their experience with and perspective on climate change, and create an original piece related to this topic. We are pleased to announce that, out of over 5,000 submissions, Iris Wesley was chosen to receive an honorable mention for her poem "The Mother and the Sisters". Congratulations Iris!
