Ice Harvest Update
Another successful ice harvest is in the books! Our hardworking team spent four days cutting, delivering, and storing approximately 3,250 ice blocks, starting on January 24 and finishing on January 27 at Deep End. Many thanks to the workers who came out to help us complete the ice harvest!
The Rockywold Ice House stores approximately 202 ice blocks per row and the Deephaven Ice House about 159 blocks, and both ice houses were filled with 9 rows of ice. The ice is well insulated by sawdust (enabling it to stay frozen until after the last RDC guest leaves in September). The ice blocks were 15.5" x 19.5" x ice depth, which was between 13.25" and 14.5". The blocks weighed between 120 and 140 pounds. This year, we were able to open the Ice Harvest to visitors, and it was a hit! Over 60 guests joined us to witness this centuries-old tradition firsthand. A huge thank you to our incredible team and all who came to experience this special piece of RDC history!
