Dear Members and Friends,
It’s been a busy winter, and there’s plenty to catch up on. The recent member survey offered valuable feedback on what MPOA members view as key issues and opportunities. Topping the list for 50% of respondents was safety—a topic that has been central to our efforts this season in conversations with City Manager Gary Young and City Councilmembers. We’re actively working to bring thoughtful solutions to the Moorings neighborhood.
Our upcoming Board Meeting on April 8th will serve as a Moorings Safety Town Hall, with a focus on specific concerns—particularly the intersection of Harbour Drive and Crayton Road, where a tragic pedestrian fatality involving a community member occurred in November. We’ve invited key city officials to present and discuss potential improvements. Alison Bickett, Deputy City Engineer, and Dave Rivera, Traffic Operations Supervisor, will present two design proposals for that intersection. Additionally, Detective Pablo DeBien will provide an update and lead a discussion on the potential implementation of License Plate Readers in the Moorings—an initiative the MPOA is considering funding in partnership with the City.
Recordings from our last three meetings are now available (see below). The February meeting focused on hurricane resiliency, featuring Steve Beckman, Naples City Building Director, who provided insights into the considerations and permitting requirements for flooding prevention solutions for your home. The Annual Meeting included remarks from new City Manager Gary Young, who shared updates on citywide priorities and responded to questions from MPOA members. The March meeting provided a timeline for the completion of the Naples Beach Club, along with details about the public amenities that will be available.
Last but not least, we have two social events coming up at the Beach Park. Gator BBQ will be at the park this Saturday, March 29th, and the Ice Cream Social is back! Meet us under the Chickee Hut on April 12th for ice cream and cake. More details are below in the Events section.
See you at the Beach Park.
