NEWS YOU CAN USE

Turn A Google Map URL into a Track

This is in fact good news and goofy news. https://mapstogpx.com/ That web site is back on line and asserts you an drop in a google map URL [make sure it the URL that google invites you to share] and then download a gpx file. There is also an option to only download a gpx file with "route points". If you have a ZUMO or other motorcycle GPS maybe this is of some use as the result is a TRACK and those units can run tracks. In BASECAMP this can be "converted" into a route for other units BUT you cannot edit this as it is in fact a TRACK My tests of the "route points only" function produced no useful results. This is fools gold. Instead, use Google's My Maps function. You get a route that is auto-saved in the cloud. You can download it as a KML file and immediately use it with BaseCamp and edit it. You get a route that will run on your phone. If the concept of My Maps is something you cannot figure out, get in touch for a tutorial.

Ride To Eat |

All you need to find the best and the unusual on your route

Google Maps: Create a route. Look for box "search along the route". Click into it. A drop down will show "fast food". If you do not see "restaurants" then type that in. Next time as you search along the route and double click "restaurants" will be listed in the drop down. Zoom in along the route. See that "search along the route box"?. Repeat the search. Note that google shows you a list of restaurants, their ratings and their pricing.

RoadFoodTV: If you want a curated list where restaurants are listed from fabulous and funky to James Beard Award winners that create a bookmark for https://roadfood.com/tv/ Load the site. Look to the upper right and ask for restaurants near me. Next page upper left type in your city of interest. NOTE: The map has the usual +/- sign to zoom in and out and you can MOVE the map. As you do that restaurants in the zoom area appear so literally you can go along your route and find the restaurants a the level of Diners and Dives along with some very serious unique serious chef on board eateries. ..... Speaking of Diners and Dives and Food Network shows.

TVFoodMaps.com For sure you can go to food network and find lots of eateries. In fact https://www.foodnetwork.com/restaurants will get you there. BUT if you want a funky directory of 50 shows that also allows you to select by show you need to go here: https://www.tvfoodmaps.com/ Scroll down and click "restaurants near me". Whatever page you then get eyeball upper left top of screen and type in a town and state name. You can "filter" by show by hitting the big FILTER button to see only Diners Drive-Ins and Dives for example.
