Online graduation application for Spring 2025 is OPEN in your MyBGSU - deadline to apply online is Friday, February 7.

If you are planning to complete degree or certificate requirements during the Spring 2025 semester, you should apply for graduation.
- If you are completing two programs (e.g., Certificate + Master's), apply twice - one for each program.

Remember, you can always check your degree progress by running a degree audit.

Small Grant Panel
The Graduate College, in partnership with the Center for Faculty Excellence, is developing a new workshop for the upcoming spring semester (date TBD) to educate graduate students on their options for small grant requests to support research endeavors. We are seeking a panel moderator and panelists for this event. Specifically, we are looking for faculty or students who have successfully obtained small grants and can share their experiences in navigating the grant application process. Please contact Kim Fleshman by January 31, 2025, to indicate your interest in being a moderator or panelist.

Enter Three Minute Thesis (3MT) Competition
Want to share your research? The Three Minute Thesis (3MT) competition will be held Feb. 20. and is a great place to hone your presentation and research communication skills while sharing your knowledge in three minutes using a single static PowerPoint slide. You will want to use language that someone who is not in your field, will still understand.
The deadline to register is Friday, Feb. 7 (entries received after that date will be considered if space is available). Competitors need to submit their presentation slide by Feb. 14 by 5pm.
Prizes:
1st Place: $500*
2nd Place: $300
3rd Place: $200
*The first-place winner will also be entered into the Midwestern Association of Graduate Schools (MAGS) 3MT competition, which will be held on April 4, 2025, in Indianapolis, IN.

Apply to be a Graduate Student Ambassador
Ambassadors will assist with outreach to incoming students over the summer and serve as a resource for these students. Additionally, they may assist with other recruitment and outreach activities during the academic year. This position runs from Summer 2025 - Spring 2026.
Little time commitment; big impact! Work 1-2 hours a week on average over the summer.

GSS Regalia Award
It is a significant commitment of resources for graduate students at Bowling Green State University (BGSU) to attend their commencement ceremony. To encourage more graduate students to walk in a BGSU commencement ceremony (May, August, or December), the Graduate Student Senate (GSS) created the GSS Regalia Award to support graduate students who may need help covering the cost of regalia.
To be eligible for the award, the applicant must (1) be currently enrolled in a recognized BGSU graduate degree program and (2) have a graduation application on file with the Graduate College. Graduation application deadline for Spring 2025 is Friday, February 7, 2025.

Graduate Student ITS Survey
The GSS will be hosting a survey to ask graduate students about their classroom technology experiences. This will help GSS and ITS better understand how graduate students are interacting with and experiencing technology on campus, especially as teachers.

Shanklin Research Awards
The Charles E. Shanklin Award for Research Excellence was established by the Graduate Student Senate as a meritorious award to recognize excellence in original research by graduate students at Bowling Green State University. Mr. Charles E. Shanklin, a Bowling Green State University alumnus, generously contributed funds to Graduate Student Senate to further graduate research; thus, a special account for the Shanklin Award was established.

Symposium on Diversity
Despite morning class cancelations on Jan. 22, the 10th Annual Symposium on Diversity proceeded, featuring keynote speaker Haley Anissa Alvarez, a Ph.D. student in Theatre, with her talk, "It Takes the Whole Pueblo".
"Because of my lack of access to resources, getting to where I am today took ingenuity and an incredible amount of faith...Now that I have entered these academic spaces, I often tackle issues of assimilation, microaggressions, and suppression. The tools that I have learned while navigating through these experiences have shaped the person I am in and out of the classroom."
Here are the tools that Haley shared in her address:
- Have faith as small as a mustard seed.
- Turn anger/frustrations into inner motivation.
- The art of not being silent and valuing the importance of allyship.
- Turn the other cheek in the face of oppression.

Gendered Regimes of AI Visualization Symposium
This symposium is supported by the BGSU Shanklin AI Innovation Award, as part of the project, A Practice-Led Feminist Pedagogy: Working with Students to Help Them Make Meaning and Find Their Voice through Generative AI.
The Shanklin AI Innovation Award recognizes innovative uses of AI in teaching and learning at BGSU. This project was competitively selected last spring, distinguished as the only one employing a critical framework to explore AI’s role in education.

Social Justice Through Sport and Exercise Psychology Symposium

The BGSU Counseling Center is here to help you connect to mental health resources on and around campus if or when you need them.

To set an appointment or speak with an on-call counselor for crisis situations, call 419-372-2081 between 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays. You can also utilize the Wood County Crisis Line at 419-502-4673, which is open 24/7 to those in Wood County.
