Scouting Programs at Redeemer
Redeemer serves as the Charter Organization for three troops: Cub Scout Pack 861 (both girls and boys), Troop 2119 (girls), and Troop 1916 (boys). Please see information below about these troops along with contact information if you are interested in getting involved.
Cub Scout Pack 861
Roughly 35 Scouts ranging from Kindergarten through 5th grade, organized by year group into Dens. We usually meet twice per month, every other Monday evening from 6:30 to 7:30 PM, as well as one Saturday per month. Our activities range widely and include group games, hiking, camping, visits and tours, volunteering, and practical skills. If you're interested in joining, please reach out to the Cubmaster, Dominik Wermus (dominik.wermus@gmail.com). New Scouts are welcome at any time. Please note that Scouting activities are planned and organized collectively by parents, so parental participation is required.
Troop 2119
We are a girls Troop with approximately 30 active Scouts. Our Scouts are between 12 and 17 years old. Our Troop is focused on the outdoors and community service. Some of our recent activities include camping, canoeing, horseback riding, rope courses, backpacking, and hiking. We have attended and plan to attend high adventure treks including hiking in New Mexico, canoeing in Minnesota and Canada, winter camping in Minnesota, and sailing in the US Virgin Islands. Our completed and planned service projects focus on food insecurity and veterans. We promote youth leadership. We meet every Tuesday night from 7-8:30pm in Music Room B. If interested in joining, please reach out to Todd Wynn (troop2119scoutmaster@gmail.com).
Troop 1916
Troop 1916 is a boys troop with approximately 45 active Scouts ranging in age from 11 to 17 years old. We have monthly overnight trips which usually include include one of the following activities: backpacking, canoeing, climbing, hiking, a Projectoree competition, skiing, capped off with an annual beach trip to the Eastern shore at the end of the school year. We also attend a one week sleep away camp each summer, plus the older scouts are eligible to go with us to one of three High Adventure bases each summer: Northern Tier (canoing in the boundary waters), Philmont (backpacking in northeast New Mexico), and Seabase (sailing or scuba diving in the Florida Keys/USVI). Along with these activities, we usually have an opportunity for participating in several large service projects in the fall, as well as many smaller projects as our Scouts advance and plan their own Eagle projects which need assistance from fellow Scouts. Our meetings are Tuesday nights from 7:30 to 8:30 PM in the Fellowship Hall, with a pre-meeting beginning at 7:00 PM. We believe a youth-led troop is the basis for building leadership skills that will serve the Scouts well in their future. Please contact Alfred Thesmar (AThesmar@aol.com) or Doug Lum (troop1916mcleancc@gmail.com) to learn more or to join us.
