Township Open House

The Board of Trustees would like to invite all residents to our annual Open House event which is going to be held Saturday May 17th. This event gives residents the opportunity to meet with Township employees including the Board of Trustees, and tour our facilities including our Service Garage and our Safety and Administration Building. Kids can sit in our dump trucks and loaders and meet our Fire/EMS, as well as the Summit County Sherriff.

Spring Zoning Guidance

With warmer weather on the way, we know residents are thinking about outdoor projects like fences, decks, and pools. We've updated our website to summarize Zoning requirements to help you stay compliant with Northfield Center Township's Zoning Code.

Fence, Pool, and Deck Zoning Summary

You may also access Northfield Center's Complete Zoning Code by visiting the Zoning Code page of our website.

It's also important to keep the ditches in front of your home clean and free of debris. Clogged ditches can lead to drainage issues, flooding, and even damage to your property. Regularly clearing leaves, grass clippings, and other buildup ensures water flows properly and helps prevent costly problems. Should you need any assistance with your ditch or driveway pipe please contact our service department.

Last week the former Northfield Center Township Fire Station was taken down. The Board of Trustees secured a grant to fund the demolition. You’ll recall the Township built a new fire station at 8484 Olde 8 Rd which opened in 2023. The property where the old fire station building sat is for sale and the Board of Trustees is looking to repurpose that property to fit Town Center Zoning. This move marks a significant step in the ongoing growth and revitalizations of Northfield Center Township. To view Township Properties for Sale, visit our website.

Summer Roads Updates

The Board of Trustees has approved the following roads to be resurfaced this summer: Brookside Ln West, Pebble Brooke Ct, Pin Oak Circle. Additionally, Route 82 (which is a state road and handled by the state) will be paved from end to end in Northfield Center Township this summer.

Trustees Want Resident Input on Town Center Comprehensive Plan

In 1998 a comprehensive plan was adopted by the Board of Trustees for Northfield Center Township as required by Ohio Revised Code Section 519.02. In 2003, a preliminary enhancement plan was done for the Olde Northfield Business District (town center). This was the last time a plan was approved.

The Board of Trustees, Zoning Board and Zoning Board of Appeals have been meeting to update Northfield Center Township's comprehensive plan. A comprehensive plan is a community’s roadmap for the future, outlining its goals and actions needed to achieve them. It focuses on preserving and enhancing the community’s vision or “blueprint”. Not a zoning ordinance, rather a roadmap on how the Township should be preserved around economic and commercial development. Currently there is a team made up of all three boards that are working on updating our comprehensive plan specific to the Town Center.

The board is asking for your input specific on the Town Center area.

Please send your comments via email to glim@northfieldcenter.com or call the Township Offices by May 15th.

Currently the “Town Center” is accessed through the five points, namely, Route 82, Olde 8, Brandywine and Akron Cleveland Rd. The Town Center consists of over 15 businesses, two schools, many residential homes, the Palmer House Museum and the Township Town Hall.
