Dear Saint Michael Parish School Families,
I had initially planned to discuss upcoming events and milestones this week as we move deeper into the academic year. However, I must shift our focus to address the afternoon pick-up process in the lower lot. It is disheartening to see a continued disregard for our pick-up protocols, which compromises the safety and well-being of our students. As we strive to foster a community that exemplifies responsibility, patience, and honesty, we urgently need to correct certain practices during pick-up times. We ask for your cooperation to ensure a safe and orderly environment for all our students and families.
Adhering to Car Line Procedures
We have observed an increase in the number of parents parking and walking to the crosswalk to retrieve their children directly, attempting to bypass the car line. This not only disrupts the flow of our carefully planned dismissal procedure but also sets a precedent that encourages others to follow suit. Such actions do not align with the values we want to instill in our students.
Procedure for Early Departure
If you need to pick up your child early for appointments or other valid reasons, please call the office in advance. This allows us to prepare your child for departure without disrupting the educational process. Additionally, if you have a specific need to park regularly during pick-up times, this reason must be documented with our office to ensure consistency and safety for all.
Unauthorized Student Exits
We have also noted that some students are exiting onto 19th Avenue via the alley without proper authorization. Please be reminded that students are not permitted to leave campus through the alley unless they are walking to a predetermined destination, such as their home or a bus stop, and we have received written consent from parents or guardians.
Setting the Standard
It is crucial that as family members of SMPS, you help us by modeling the behavior we expect from our students. Observing the rules is not just about following procedure but about demonstrating to our children how to act with integrity and consideration for others.
Please let us continue to work together to provide a safe and supportive environment for our students. Your cooperation and commitment to adhering to these guidelines are greatly appreciated.
Blessings,
Mrs. Dana Lashley
