Dear Friends,

Our role as legal advocates is to empower asylum seekers from all over the world, provide access to legal representation when they would otherwise have none, and fight for our clients to have an opportunity to live in safety in the United States.

Through our work, we are consistently confronted with the reality of racial bias, xenophobic bias, and class bias deeply embedded in our society and immigration policy.

The PAIR Staff, Board, and I are writing to assure you that no matter what happens in the coming days, PAIR is committed to its mission to providing free legal services to asylum seekers and immigrants unjustly detained by the immigration service. We take heart in knowing we are not alone and are grateful to each one of you for the part you play in honoring PAIR’s mission.

If you have questions about your client’s case, please speak with your PAIR mentor or any staff attorney. If you would like to volunteer with PAIR or support our programs, please reach out to us.

Many of you have reached to ask about next steps and what changes may come. On Wednesday, November 20th from 1:00-2:00 pm ET, PAIR's Ilana Greenstein, Asylum Program Manager, and Melanie Gleason, Pro Bono Involvement Coordinator, will host an open forum to address your concerns about the possible changes to immigration laws and immigrant rights.

Please RSVP for the 11/20 Open Forum here.

While we don't have all the answers right now, we have navigated times of uncertainty and draconian changes to immigration law many times in our history. We look forward to engaging in these conversations with you. In the coming weeks, we will share resources, referrals, legal updates, and answer your questions.

PAIR is ready to do the important work that is needed to achieve justice, transparency and fairness in the immigration laws for our clients and immigrant community. Thank you so much for supporting us and for all your do for PAIR and PAIR clients!

In solidarity,

Anita P. Sharma

If you are an attorney and are interested in taking on one of the below non-detained asylum cases, please email me at mgleason@pairproject.org.

Asylum (Immigration Court): LB (Guinea) is a 27-year-old Guinean woman who fears she will be filled by her family because she had a child outside of wedlock.

Asylum (Immigration Court): AMM (Cameroon) is a 33-year-old man who has survived extensive torture and physical abuse due to his sexual orientation and misconceived role in the ongoing Anglophone War.

As part of pro bono month, PAIR hosted its "I Make Justice Happen!" campaign in October. “I Make Justice Happen!” (IMJH) is a grassroots fundraising campaign created, led, and driven by generous legal associates during the month of October. Since 2009, PAIR has received thousands of dollars in donated funds with the help of the associates. All funds go directly to running PAIR's programs and providing free legal services to PAIR's clients.

The IMJH drive this year, led by 15 dedicated team captains from 10 participating firms, raised $43,855 in critical funds for PAIR’s programs.

Thank you Team Captains Rebecca Brownell, Madeleine Kausel, Kayleigh McGlynn, Allie Shalom, Miranda Curtis, Michael Moore, Adam Risser, Danielle Dillon, Daniel Johnston, Ryan Lind, Alyssa Fixsen, Anne Rabon, Adya Kumar, Disha Patel, and Victoria Moreno! We are so grateful for your dedication and fundraising efforts! We could not have raised this much without you.

Thank you to all at Choate, Fish & Richardson, Foley & Lardner, Fragomen, Mintz, Nutter, Orrick, Ropes & Gray, Skadden and WilmerHale for supporting IMJH year after year and for all that you do for PAIR and PAIR clients!

Finally, while we had a spectacular Pro Bono Month and IMJH drive, the need to support PAIR is as critical as ever. It is not too late to give to make justice happen for PAIR clients. Please consider supporting PAIR so that we can keep our programs strong and provide free legal services to asylum seekers and immigrants unjustly detained by ICE.
