What's Coming!

November 8, 2024

Whether we like it or not, the results this week of the presidential election in the US will have significant impact on Canada over the next four years. From my perspective, it was the ugliest election campaign I have ever experienced. Many people are still in a collective state of shock and disbelief. I find the following words helpful:

Instructions on Living in a Broken World

                                   By Roger Wolsey

Lean into community

Seek out love

Applaud the good you see

Keep paying attention

Talk to your neighbours

Dance to the music and embrace art

Look for love and small joys

Take breaks and relish in nourishing your body

Donate what you can

Linger at the dinner table with family or friends

Check in with your people

Let yourself grieve

Love one another as deeply as you can

The storm is upon us and we must hold on

Don’t give up, we’re here together

Still we rise

Blessings, Rev Kathi

Stewardship

November is stewardship month at EMUC. Each of us is asked to reflect on our contribution to our church, both in terms of financial donations and volunteer time. Commitment forms will not be distributed but you are asked to contact our Donation Secretary, Mike Ogilvie at donations@emuc.ca if you wish to change your donation amount or to start a regular PAR donation. We have set a target of an increase of $5,000 in operational givings for 2025.

Deacon's Cupboard Donation Suggestions

Thank you for the tremendous response to our request for food items.

In November we are asking EMUC to donate canned vegetables. Of course we will also accept other food items.

Your support enables us to share God’s Bounty.

Thanksgiving Offering

We received $3,400 in Thanksgiving Offerings this year compared to a budget of $2,700. Well done.

Circle of Friends

The Circle of Friends continues to meet on the second Wednesday of each month from 1:00 to 3:00 on Zoom. For our November meeting, we have chosen a book to read and discuss. The book is Redwood Court by DeLana R.A. Dameron. There are three copies available in the Mississauga Library system, as well as two audiobooks and an e-book. Everyone is welcome to join us.

EMUC Christmas Outreach 2024

It's hard to believe but before you know it Christmas will be on our doorstep.

We know that the need is great and many people are struggling. This year we are supporting Our Place Peel https://ourplacepeel.org/, a non-profit agency that supports youth at risk in the Peel region. The attached website provides more information on their services.

As in the past, congregants who wish to support this cause are asked to make their donation using e-transfer (emucdonation@outlook.comor a cheque made out to Erin Mills United Church given to Mike Ogilvie, clearly indicating Christmas Outreach. In turn, the monies collected will be used to purchase Fundscrip cards (grocery stores, restaurants, Walmart etc.). To note, this is a win/win - you are helping EMUC and the charity.

We ask that you make your donation by November 22nd.

Thank you.
