Volume 27 | No.1 | January 2025
From Netty Cracknell, ISOPP President
Dear Eunji
As the new calendar year begins, it provides us all with an opportunity to reflect on our goals, achievements, and future aspirations. I have started the year with a new job (like most ISOPP volunteers, I also work full time as a cancer pharmacist) and it reminded me when I first qualified as a pharmacist, I avoided situations where I had to present, even to small groups. But I pushed myself, step by step, putting myself in situations that challenged me. Now, I can confidently stand and present to hundreds of people in an auditorium – something my younger self would have never believed! I encourage all of you to step outside your comfort zone this month. Whether it's volunteering, like Tiene has done in Morocco (though that requires some planning!), joining a new exercise class, or even saying yes to that new project – challenge yourself to try something new. Keep doing it again and again, and you’ll watch yourself grow!
Reflecting on the past year, I’m excited to share that ISOPP has been working on content for our brand-new website, set to launch in February. The redesigned platform will feature an improved resource search function, enhanced user experience, better member information, and greater accessibility to keep you informed and connected. Be on the lookout for an email asking you to update your membership details on the current website, as this will be transferred to the new site.
In education news, the UTIC eLearning course has been awarded the prestigious FIP Seal of Recognition. This is a significant achievement, showcasing the high standard of education we offer and reinforcing our commitment to advancing professional development in oncology pharmacy. The FIP Seal is a mark of quality, and we are incredibly proud that this course has earned international recognition.
With our International Symposium fast approaching, ISOPP volunteers are hard at work preparing for this annual event. I hope to see you there, and at our Annual AGM, where you’ll have the opportunity to learn more about our work and ask myself and the leadership team any questions you may have about the society. Please come find me and share how you’ve stepped out of your comfort zone!
Thank you for your ongoing dedication to advancing oncology pharmacy. Together, we continue to make a positive impact on patient care and shaping the future of our field.

ISOPP Global Leaders Meeting
The most recent meeting of the ISOPP Global Oncology Pharmacy Leaders took place on January 16, 2025. The group has been meeting on a quarterly basis for two years now, and it has been a wonderful collaboration to support the collective advancement of oncology pharmacy practice and cancer patient care globally. The group now encompasses over 45 national organizations across the globe and continues to grow.
The quarterly meetings provide the opportunity for delegates to learn from each other, discuss challenges, share knowledge and resources, coordinate priorities, and harmonize efforts. Our meeting in January focused on discussing the preliminary results from our global survey project looking at oncology pharmacy service levels and the associated knowledge required. Please join us at the ISOPP CAPhO 2025 Symposium in Victoria, Canada to hear more about our results at the “Oncology Pharmacy Around the World” panel session on Friday, April 4th!
Our goal is to include representation from all countries at the ISOPP Global Leaders Meetings, so if your country is not yet listed here please contact us so we can work with you and your country’s national oncology pharmacy/national pharmacy organization or equivalent to nominate a representative.

Exciting News: A New Website Coming in February!
We’re thrilled to announce the launch of our brand-new website, set to go live in February! This update comes because our existing platform expires later this year (and therefore would be prone to attack), making it necessary for us to create a more modern, efficient, and user-friendly space for our members.
The new website will feature an improved resource search function, making it easier than ever for you to find the information you need. We’ve also focused on enhancing the overall user experience, with a better layout, more detailed member information, and additional content to keep you informed and connected. Whether you’re looking for the latest updates, educational resources, or event information, the new website will offer a seamless and intuitive experience.
We’re excited about these changes, but as you can imagine, there are costs involved in developing and launching a new platform. If you would like to support this effort and help with the associated expenses, we encourage you to consider making a donation. Your generosity will play a key role in ensuring that we can continue to provide valuable resources to the oncology pharmacy community.
To donate, please click here.
Stay tuned for more updates as we get closer to the launch, and thank you for your ongoing support.

A Wonderful Experience of Volunteering at the Pediatric Hematology and Oncology Hospital in Rabat, Morocco by Pharm. Tiene Bauters
Volunteering at the pediatric oncology hospital in Rabat (capital of Morocco) was truly a remarkable and enriching experience. I had the privilege to contribute to a project focused on medication safety, a critical aspect of care in oncology. This opportunity not only allowed me to make a tangible impact but also deepened my understanding of the challenges and solutions within pediatric oncology.
What stood out was the incredible dedication of the hospital team. Their passion, professionalism, and commitment to their patients were inspiring. The involvement of charity partners played a pivotal role in supporting the hospital’s operations, providing vital resources, and enabling innovative projects. The high motivation of the team, combined with their collaborative spirit, created an atmosphere of hope and excellence.
Beyond the hospital, I had the chance to explore the beautiful city of Rabat. Its friendly people and warm hospitality made me feel welcome again from the very beginning. From the vibrant streets to the rich culture, Rabat offered a unique charm that added to the overall experience.
This volunteering experience is something I would strongly recommend to any pharmacist involved in oncology. It aligns perfectly with the vision and mission of ISOPP (International Society of Oncology Pharmacy Practitioners), promoting collaboration, knowledge sharing, and excellence in oncology pharmacy practice.
Such opportunities not only contribute to professional growth but also remind us of the importance of global solidarity and the profound impact we can make in the lives of patients and their families.
