Joe Kenaston, Sr. Pastor

Pastor Joe is sharing the following poem with us as we approach Ash Wednesday.

"Ashes" by Ann Weems, Kneeling in Jerusalem

Two nights ago I knelt and

took the ashes from the fireplace.

It was some time before I saw evidence

of the smudge of ash upon my face.

I washed it quickly away.

Last night I knelt and took the bread

and dipped it in the cup,

and then I felt the cool smooth

finger of ash upon my forehead,

ashes from last year's palms

saved for this holy time.

I wondered if there might still be

some remnant of Hosanna!

lingering in the ashes.

All evening long I wore the ash,

that holy ash,

and when others saw the smudge,

I wondered if they were inclined

to wipe it clean

or to lean closer

in the hope of hearing

some soft Hosanna!

burning still

in ash

or heart . . .

Ash Wednesday

March 5 at 7:00 p.m.: One of the most powerful and challenging worship experiences of the church year is Ash Wednesday worship. The service will remind us of our need to repent and of our mortality. The sermon will emphasize that life is “More than Ashes.” In the Old Testament, people sometimes poured ashes on themselves when they were led to repent or in a heavy spirit of grief. Through sermon, prayers, imposition of ashes, and receiving communion, God will shower us with peace and mercy. Regular Wednesday evening groups will not meet on Ash Wednesday.

This Sunday after Church: Fund Raising Soup Lunch!

Church Family, Get Ready to Socialize and Support our Youth! Join us for a soup lunch after church this Sunday, March 9th. This will be a fundraiser to support the youth summer activities. We invite both youth and parents to help out by bringing soups for the event. If you are not a youth parent and would like to help out please let Luke know. If you would like to contribute a soup, please let Luke know, as he’s organizing a list of what’s being brought. Looking forward to seeing everyone there and enjoying some delicious soup together while supporting our youth!

Make sure to pick up a Lenten bow for your home the next time you're at church!
