Former ministers to provide advice on

engaging with the province

Delegates attending this year’s LGLA Forum will hear from three former cabinet ministers on how to best engage with the Province on local issues. Carole James (past Minister of Finance and Deputy Premier), Terry Lake (past Minister of Health) and Mike Bernier (past Minister of Education) will share their thoughts during the panel“Engaging with the Province: Observations from the Balcony.”

Short-term rental opt-in and opt-out deadline


Each year, local governments can request by resolution to “opt-in” to the Province’s principal residence requirement by March 31 for the change to take effect November 1. Local governments that have had a 3% or more vacancy rate for two consecutive years can request to “opt-out” on the same timeline with approval from the Province. Additional information on the principal residence regulations may be found on the Province’s webpage.

Wildfire Resiliency and Training Summit 2025

BC Builds and Beyond Workshop

BC Builds and SFU Renewable Cities are hosting an in-person workshop for local government staff, planners and First Nations interested in learning about practices and resources to accelerate housing developments. Lisa Helps from BC Builds and representatives from Langley, Burnaby and Penticton will share insights from upcoming housing developments at the workshop, taking place from 9am -12pm on February 13 in downtown Vancouver.
