IN SUPPORT OF OLD FORT, NC - LOCATED IN MCDOWELL COUNTY.

Fort Wright, Kentucky (Oct 7th, 2024) – The City of Fort Wright, KY Mayor, City Council and Staff have partnered with the North Carolina City & County Management Association (NCCCMA) to deliver much needed non-perishable items to flood ravaged Old Fort (located in McDowell County) North Carolina.

The Town of Old Fort, North Carolina is located 30 miles east of Asheville and in 2024 had a population of 820 people. Old Fort, established in 1873, is one of 18 cities located in McDowell County, North Carolina that collectively has an estimated population of 45,031 people.

NCCCMA Executive Director Rob Shepherd has indicated that many cities and counties remain in response mode and assessing the magnitude of the damage and still searching for missing persons. He further indicated that many communities still do not have power or reliable communications, many roads are damaged or destroyed limiting and preventing transportation, and that there is a tremendous need for a variety of non-perishable items.
