Greetings Beloved Community!

I have been reflecting on this moment when our country and the world feel upside down and the opportunity that the season of Lent affords us to pause, assess, center, and place ourselves once again in the role of disciple.

As we try to make sense of all the events taking place, I would encourage us to start by investing in and focusing on our spiritual lives first. On March 12, 19, and 26 I will be sharing some thoughts at The Gathering (Wing Grace Hall/FC North - 5:30 light supper/5:45 brief devotion/6:00-7:00 Study) on using the Lenten season to conduct an annual Spiritual Check-up (I will have one to share), renewing our prayer life, and re-visiting our calling of spiritual discipleship (learning). I hope you will join me for these conversations.

I hope that you will take the opportunity to engage deeply with this season of Lent as a time of spiritual reflection and renewal. Be sure to stay aware of the Lenten activities offered by First Community.

At Sunday Intersections Adult Sunday School (FC North/Room 101 - 12:30-1:30), we just finished a documentary and discussion series on Dietrich Bonhoeffer. This Sunday we will begin the documentary on theologian Reinhold Niebuhr. Niebuhr had a significant impact on religion, politics, and public policy in the 20th century.

Don’t forget, Centering Prayer is being offered on Thursday nights from 6–7 at FC South in Burkhart Chapel.

Blessings to you all!

More from SLLC

Thank you to everyone who was able to join us last month when Jim Wallis joined us as our first Spiritual Searcher of 2025. We were blessed to have so many people join us in Grace Wing Hall on Saturday, February 1 and were witness to a very powerful presentation. If you weren't able to join us, or would like to see it again, it is linked below.

We still have a few copies of Jim's latest book, The False White Gospel, available in our Church Merch store, even more exciting we have a few autographed copies that we acquired during his time at First Community.

We also have provided a link to sign up for Jim's substack, God's Politics, where you will receive an email from Jim each week where he encourages us, "Don't go left, don't go right, go deeper."
