Greetings 4-H Community,


Happy New Year! We hope everyone enjoyed a wonderful holiday season! Many clubs start meeting in January, so be sure to complete your 4-H Enrollment so you don't miss out on all the great opportunities!

Extension Educators

Milk Quality/Dairy Foods


There is still time to join us for our first practice on January 21. We will meet at the Extension Office at 7:00 p.m. This is a great way for anyone to learn more about the dairy industry and how dairy products are made. Our team will participate in the state contest on February 15. Be sure to fill out this sign up sheet and send it to Robby Kelly. Reach out to Robby with any questions.

4-H Camp Counselors Wanted


If you are in grades 7-12 you are invited to apply for a 4-H Camp Counselor position! In this role, you will work with other 4-H’ers from Elkhart County to plan, lead and mentor a camping experience for our 3rd-6th grade youth.

 

The cost to be a camp counselor is $125. This will include an overnight mandatory weekend training retreat April 12-13, 2025 as well as the full week of camp June 2-6, 2025.

4-H Alumni Focus Group


We need your voice! As a part of our strategic planning and visioning process, we are inviting Elkhart County 4-H alumni to join us via Zoom for a focus group: Potential Partnerships and Programs on Thursday, January 16 at 7:00pm EST.


This focus group will meet for one hour to engage in meaningful dialogue and create a forum to share your thoughts, ideas, and experiences!


If you'd like to be a part of this group discussion and are an Elkhart County 4-H alum, please email sgreybar@purdue.edu to RSVP and receive the Zoom information.


Additional information will be sent to confirmed attendees ahead of the call. Please reach out if you have any questions or would like to further discuss our strategic planning process.

Scholarship Workshop


We’re excited to remind you of some fantastic opportunities to support your educational journey! All 4-H members are encouraged to apply for state and county scholarships before the upcoming January 15 deadline. These scholarships are an excellent way to showcase your hard work and help fund your future education.


To guide you through the scholarship application process, we’re hosting a Scholarship Workshop on January 9 from 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm in the Elkhart County 4-H Fairgrounds Board Room. This workshop will offer tips and one-on-one support to help your application stand out. Be sure to sign up and take advantage of this opportunity! Click here to register for the workshop:

Meet Representatives at Indiana 4-H Day at the Statehouse!


February 10-11, 2025 at Indiana Statehouse in Indianapolis, for 4-H’ers in Grades 7-12.

 

Registration is open! Payment is accepted in 4-H Online and costs $50 to attend. Use this link to register: https://4HStatehouse2025.4honline.com. The cost is an additional $15 if you are not already a 4-H’er and you will need to register with 4HOnline first.

 

Elkhart Delegation will be staying overnight. The overnight portion will include energizers/icebreakers to help meet youth from other parts of the state as well as activities to help youth with speaking to local representatives!


Elkhart County will travel as a delegation from the fairgrounds in Goshen to this event after school February 10 and return late February 11.

 

On February 11, participants will use public transportation, meet their legislators, watch government in session, have an opportunity to serve as pages and tour the statehouse!

 

There are also several optional breakout sessions that may include topics such as mock legislation, military careers, parliamentary procedure and board training.
