Counselor Newsletter | February 2025

Registration for Classes

Counselors went into English Classrooms last week to give students information about next year's classes. Please encourage students to make an appointment with their counselor if they need help choosing classes for the 2025-2026 school year. The deadline for the course registration sheet is March 7th. Students will turn it into the counseling office. Here is a link to the Academic Catalog if students need help choosing classes.

Some classes for the 2025-2026 school year have an application. If classes have an asterisk by the course title, students need to submit an application. Applications can be found in the academic catalog under the course description. There is also a QR Code on the back of the registration sheet that will lead students to applications.

Students must have their school year registration completed through TADS before their course selections can be finalized. All parents should have received an email in January from TADS with a unique link to re-enroll your student(s). Should you not be able to locate that email, you can login to the TADS website to access your account. Should you need assistance with that process, please contact our Registrar, Chrissy Beckner, at 208-375-6010 or cbeckner@bk.org.

Summer Classes

This summer Bishop Kelly is offering in-person classes. The summer school session will run from June 2-13 for 6.5 hours a day, Monday through Friday. In this 2-week window, registered students will be able to take Digital Literacy, Health, or US History 1B. Classes will cost $250 plus the payment portal fee, and be taught by Bishop Kelly instructors. Registration opens February 14 to all in-coming students. Please visit BK.org to sign up for one of these classes.

The registration for summer classes through Idaho Digital Learning Alliance opens up on March 3, 2025. The classes are 75 dollars each, and all classes need counselor approval. If students are interested in taking a summer class through IDLA, please tell them to see their counselor after March 3rd.

Junior Meetings

Starting in March, counselors will be meeting with all juniors. Please remind them to sign up for a meeting using the Calendly link they received in their email. During this meeting, we will cover YouScience (Career Planning), Credit Audits, and College Planning. Juniors can begin organizing themselves for senior year by using their College Roadmap.

Girls State and Boys State

The American Legion and American Legion Auxiliary provides an opportunity every year for 11th grade boys and girls to participate in their Boys State and Girls State programs. This week-long summer program is one of the most respected educational programs of government instruction for high school students. Students are immersed in our governmental process by creating and running their own government at the local, county, and state levels. If you are interested in this potential opportunity, please reach out to Mr. Satchwell in the counseling office who can provide information on the application process.

Boys State: June 15th-20th at Gowen Field

Girls State: June 15th-20th at Northwest Nazarene University

Cost is $500 to attend and delegates must commit to the full week.

Advanced Opportunities

Attention Parents!

Is your student taking an AP or DC course at Bishop Kelly? If so, they may be eligible for funding through the State of Idaho’s Advanced Opportunities program. Please take a moment to review with your student and ensure they've applied for funding for ALL their AP and/or DC courses. Just a quick note: students can’t apply for funding for both the AP and DC version of the same course, such as DC Biology and AP Biology. This needs to be completed by 3/1/25. Link to Website.
