Christmas Parade: Thank You!

This year's City of Cumming Christmas Parade was a huge success! Thank you to everyone who participated in the parade or came out as a spectator. We would like to give a huge note of appreciation to the following:

  • Cumming Police Department and Forsyth County Sheriff's Office for providing traffic control and keeping everyone safe during the parade
  • Cumming Street Department staff for setup and cleanup before and after the parade
  • Children's Healthcare of Atlanta for sponsorship of the parade
  • Mary Helen McGruder and Carrie Ann Schaffer for serving as contest judges
  • Cindy and Vernon Hansard for serving as parade lineup coordinators
  • Forsyth Central High School for allowing us to share their parking lot for the parade lineup
  • Cumming Fairgrounds staff for allowing use of the Fairgrounds and parking lot for parking and disembarkation of floats.

Cumming Aquatic Center: Half-Price Family Friday

The Cumming Aquatic Center will again offer Half-Price Family Fridays in 2025. This month, the special will be offered on Jan. 17th from 2-6 p.m.


Come out and enjoy indoor swimming with the family at half-off the normal daily admission! This special does not apply to lessons, programs, group exercise classes, or memberships.

Cumming Recreation Presents January Art Classes

The Cumming Recreation and Parks Department will present the following art classes for kids and teens in January:


  • Let's Make Art, Ages 7-12, Tuesdays, 4:30-6 p.m. Jan. 7th-28th: Students will explore their creativity with drawing, painting and sculpting. Cost: $110 per student (includes materials)
  • Exploring Art, Ages 12-17, Tuesdays, 6:30-8 p.m. Jan. 7th-28th: Students will concentrate on incorporating value, composition and perspective into their drawings and paintings. Cost: $110 per student (includes materials)

Mayor & City Council Recognize Mentor Me North Georgia

During their Regular Meeting on Dec. 17th, Mayor Troy Brumbalow and City Council presented a proclamation recognizing January 2025 as "Mentor Me North Georgia Month" in the City of Cumming. Representatives and volunteers with Mentor Me North Georgia accepted the proclamation. The local mentoring organization, which was founded in 2002, has served more than 3,000 students this year alone through its three mentoring programs: Mentoring After School (MAS), Connect Clubs, and One-to-One Community Based Mentoring. City Council also took the following actions during the December Work Session and Regular Meeting:


  • Held a public hearing and approved the 2025 City of Cumming Budget, and approved the 2024 Budget Amendment as required by state law.
  • Approved, in a 4-1 vote with Councilman Christopher Light opposed, annexation of 3.356 acres on Dahlonega Hwy. and rezoning of the property from County Commercial Business District to City Highway Business with 15 zoning conditions.
  • Approved, in a 3-1 vote with Councilman Christopher Light recused and Councilman Joey Cochran opposed, a rezoning request for 31.9 acres on Ronald Reagan Blvd. from Highway Business to Multiple-Family Residential for the purpose of constructing a townhome development, with 19 zoning conditions.
  • Approved, in a 4-0 vote with Councilman Christopher Light recused, a rezoning request for 23.77 acres on Ronald Reagan Blvd. from Highway Business to Restricted Industrial for the purpose of constructing a 200,000-square-foot light manufacturing contractor's establishment, including cabinet shop, with 14 zoning conditions including a condition tied to the previous residential rezoning, stating that no certificates of occupancy would be issued for the residential units until a "white box" certificate is issued for the light industrial development.
  • Approved an alcoholic beverage license for the sale of malt beverages and wine at Super Pho & Boba at the Cumming City Center.
  • Approved the list of 67 alcohol license renewals of city businesses serving alcohol for 2025.
  • Approved the low proposal from Sanders Welding and Fabrication for installation of a new gate at the Cumming Utilities' Advanced Water Reclamation Facility.

Report Out Street Lights Directly to Georgia Power

City of Cumming residents can easily report out street lights directly to Georgia Power by using the Street Light Outage Reporter on the Georgia Power website. All City of Cumming street lights fall under Georgia Power so it is not necessary to report out street lights within the City Limits to City of Cumming employees. Anyone can report out street lights within the Cumming City Limits by clicking here.

January Events at the SAA Arts Center

The Sawnee Association of the Arts presents "Resolutions," a new exhibit opening on Wednesday, Jan. 15th, at the Cumming Arts Center, 111 Pilgrim Mill Road, and an opening reception on Saturday, Jan. 18th to meet the artists. The theme of this exhibit is "glancing back and looking forward." The full 2025 Exhibits and Events Schedule can be found at sawneeart.org. Gallery hours are Wednesday-Saturday, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.


Additionally, the SAA presents the following events in January:


  • A Dry Brush Watercolor Technique 2-Day Workshop will be held on Saturday, Jan. 18th and Sunday, Jan. 19th, with award-winning wildlife artist, Alan R. Young. Alan's works, primarily of indigenous birds, reside in private and public collections throughout the eastern U.S. Dry Brush Technique is a more controllable alternative to traditional watercolor. Beginners are welcome. Visit sawneeart.org to register. Class fee is $125.
  • Open Studio Hours resume in January on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. This is an opportunity to use the Cumming Arts Center space to create or to collaborate with other artists. Register to reserve space online at sawneeart.org.

Musical Month at School Street Playhouse

The School Street Playhouse will present the following concerts this month. Go to SchoolStreetPlayhouse.com for tickets to any of these great shows.


  • Shane Brothers Band New Year's Eve Show - Dec. 31st at 8 p.m.
  • Brotherhood: A Doobie Brothers Tribute - Jan. 11th at 2:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.
  • Mad Dogs & Southerners: A Tribute to Joe Cocker & Friends - Jan. 18th at 2:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.

January Holiday Closures

All City of Cumming non-essential facilities and departments will be closed in observance of New Year's Day on Wednesday, Jan. 1st, and will reopen with normal business hours on Thursday, Jan. 2nd.


Additionally, all City of Cumming non-essential facilities and departments will be closed in observance of the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday on Monday, Jan. 20th, and will reopen with normal business hours on Tuesday, Jan. 21st.
