SPEAK WORDS OF LIFE
Moses gave a powerful commandment, before he died in the land of Moab. In Deuteronomy 30 he states, “I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live.”
What a formidable command. WE make the choice to live or die, or to curse or bless. He had been with the Hebrew children from Goshen to the wilderness. He saw their hearts of rebellion. He was cursed at, and nearly killed for the call on his life from “God.” He was mocked, he was threatened, yet he still believed in these people.
Forty years was a long time to put up with rebellion, yet Moses loved these people and interceded for them when God wanted to kill them. He chose life for them. Yes, he lost his temper, and it cost him a trip into the promised land. After all this, he still stood as a go between them and God. Despite all that happened, he loved his Hebrew brothers and wanted the best for them.
We must make the same choice to speak life over others. We must speak blessings and not speak curses over them. We can stand in the gap for our loved ones and others that need Jesus.
In James 1:19 it says, “Wherefore, my beloved brethren [Christians], let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath.” This is self-explanatory. We should think before we rashly speak in anger.
Then in Psalms 141:3 it says, “Set a watch, O LORD, before my mouth; keep the door of my lips.” The word watch means a guard, or hedge of protection, or thorns about, to keep us from speaking what we should not speak.
We need to put a guard on our lips to only speak life. Unfortunately, we do not have mouths that come with zippers, but we can learn to zip our lips or not open our mouths to speak unless it is something good.
Decide to guard your words my friends. Speak life. Speak good. Give praise, and you will see people change.
