President's Message

Dear AFP Greater Dallas Members & Friends,

As fundraising professionals, we often focus on the big picture: annual goals, campaign strategies and donor acquisition. However, the heart of philanthropy lies in individual stewardship. Building meaningful, lasting relationships with donors transforms transactions into true partnerships.

Stewardship is more than a thank-you note. It’s an ongoing conversation. It’s about showing donors the impact of their gifts, making them feel valued, and fostering trust. Through personal updates, behind-the-scenes insights or heartfelt connections, thoughtful stewardship strengthens donor commitment and deepens engagement.

In today’s philanthropic landscape, donors expect authenticity and responsiveness. They want to see how their contributions make a difference. By prioritizing individualized stewardship - tailoring our communications, recognizing milestones, and listening to their motivations - we create a culture of appreciation that leads to long-term support.

This month, I encourage each of you to reflect on how you engage with your donors. What small yet meaningful actions can you take to strengthen those relationships? Stewardship isn’t just a best practice. It’s a cornerstone of ethical, effective fundraising.

Thank you for all you do to advance philanthropy in our community. Let’s continue to inspire generosity, one relationship at a time.

Warmest regards,

Manuel Mesa

2025 President, Greater Dallas AFP
