Research Recap

UT Southwestern total research spending rose from $492 million in FY19 to $768 million in FY24.

Dear Colleagues,

2024 has been an extraordinary year for our clinical research community! We've launched new initiatives, such as the first ever collaborative UT System Artificial Intelligence (AI) Symposium in Health Care event; launched a data science core, developed novel methods and tools for identifying and recruiting patients for clinical studies, and streamlined the study start up processes with a new eIRB system.

By the numbers, our UT Southwestern faculty were awarded $768 Million in total research support in this past fiscal year. This represents a stunning 56% increase in research spending over the past 5 years (see figure). Of this, support from Federal dollars rose the fastest, increasing by 77% between FY19 and FY2024. Your achievements, from the successful launch of groundbreaking initiatives, to the substantial funding that drives our mission, reflect the dedication, innovation, and collaboration that define our institution. Thank you for your unwavering commitment to advancing science, improving patient care, and fostering a culture of excellence. Together, we look forward to building on this momentum and achieving even greater heights in the year to come.

Wishing you a joyful holiday season and a prosperous New Year!

Sincerely,

Eric Peterson, M.D., M.P.H.

Showcasing Strength in Our Clinical Research Workforce

CRPs from the Department of Urology are all smiles as they join in the Clinical Research Professionals Day celebration.

Over the past two years, we’ve worked diligently to strengthen our clinical research workforce. These coordinated efforts culminated in a capstone event, the inaugural UT Southwestern Clinical Research Professionals (CRP) Day, on November 12. The event celebrated our clinical research staff with a luncheon, small tokens of appreciation, fun activities, and an awards ceremony. Over 270 of our colleagues attended to celebrate the dedicated support and contributions of our CRP staff members.

We are thrilled to share this year's awardees:
